Description: Request to replace existing wood tongue and groove decking at exterior side hall with Aeratis PVC decking at a Landmark, single-family, residential building.
HDLC Design Guidelines:
09:11-12 -- Guidelines for Porches, Galleries, and Balconies
Staff Recommendations:
The building at 1221 Carondelet became a designated Landmark in 2010 based on its architectural merit.
The applicant is requesting to replace the existing wood tongue and groove decking at the side gallery with new Aeratis PVC decking. The HDLC Guidelines does not currently approve the change of wood decking to composite materials. However, alternate materials are approved in locations that are highly susceptible to rot. Due to minimal visibility of the side porch decking and the need for longevity in an area that receives a lot of exposure, Staff has no objection to the application. Staff does recommend that the exact product type, dimensions, and details are submitted prior to final approval.
