Description: Demolition of over 50% of the roof structure of a Contributing rated, one-story, single-family residential building.
Staff Recommendations:
The front portion of the building is estimated to be constructed between 1920-1930, at the end of the period of significance for the Uptown Local Historic District. This building at the corner of Octavia and Perrier Streets replaces a historic corner store and carpenter shop indicated on Sanborn Fire Insurance maps of 1896. The rear portion of the building was constructed after 1950, well outside of the Period of Significance for the district.
The proposal seeks to add a rear second story over the non-historic 1950s addition with the removal 65% of the roof structure. The proposal also seeks to replace the entry door & the flanking pair of windows, as well as reconstruct the front porch. As the current doors and windows on the front facade do not appear original to the building, HDLC staff does not take issue with the facade modifications. For the forementioned reasons, Staff recommends approval of demolition of more than 50% of the roof and modify the front facade.
