Denise Banaag finds inspiration from her childhood and things her parents exposed her to. Denise's mom and dad were avid bird watchers and their love of birds was passed down to Denise and her siblings.
Denise's ceramic work starts with two wheel-thrown vessels and then she uses hand-building techniques to expand or combine them into something new. For the past few years almost all of those pieces have, in one form or another, been transformed into birds. For Denise the birds are a way to honor her parents and her childhood.
Denise lives in Lincoln Park, Nj and graduated from Russell Sage College in Albany NY. She teaches both adults and children at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey where she also works as a kiln tech.
