Travels & Explorations,  Near & Far:  a Community Photography Exhibit

The Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library June and July community exhibit featured the photographic talents and the incredible travels and explorations of our local residents.  We  were thrilled with the overwhelming response of applicants with over 70 entries from over 22 photographers in New Providence and our surrounding towns. We had to make choices and limitations to only 4 photos per person and include the best photographs for this exhibition.

We will be had a reception for the artists on Thursday, June 15th, from 6-8pm in the Conti Family Community Room of the New Providence Memorial Library, 377 Elkwood Avenue, New Providence.

The exhibit ended on Thursday, July 27th.

The 61 photos on the walls of the library (27 in front reading room and 34 in the Conti Community Room) presented a wonderful reflection of where our local residents have been. They shared visions of their experiences and explorations of many cultures, landscapes, encounters with wildlife, and architecture from all over the world.  The exhibition provided a glimpse into many cultural events, such as Indian pre-wedding rituals in Mumbai, or taking a boat ride up a river along Bangladesh, views of a Bali fish market, or the Hindu priests in temples of Assam.

Walking through the reading areas and the Conti Family Community Room, you saw photos that captured many moods and colors, with a range of dramatic landscapes from Iceland, the Florida Keys, the southwest deserts, and the exciting rock formations of the Arizona canyons. You will also stepped inside the architectural wonders of the Alhambra, Cathedral of Notre-Dame, theTower Bridge of London, an amusement park in Australia, and to a safari in India, where you viewed the amazing sight of the back of a One-Horned Rhino eating breakfast in the morning light.
