Kings Hat

This short, 2 mile walk takes you in a loop through woods, over the Beaulieu River (a stream at this point) and back to a good picnic spot. It can be easily extended into a longer loop by continuing across the road.

Park in the King's Hat Inclosure Car Park (https://what3words.com/gallons.silks.dwell ).

Enclosures are to keep animals in. In the New Forest we have INCLOSURES which are to keep the grazing animals OUT of the planted areas.

Take the main path out of the end of the car park, through the woods and over the stream. Continue out onto the heath land, across the plain and up the slope.

At the top, take the path to the right, along the ridge.

Continue along the ridge, taking in the magnificent views, for about 600 metres. Take the the path on the right, back down into the valley.

Although there is a bridge over the main stream, in all but the driest weather, it is necessary to cross a smaller stream via a ford (or jump it). Stout footwear is advised.

Continue into the woods, over the Beaulieu River and back out into the open.

Take the path on the right, following the edge of the trees back to the car park. Alternatively, continue straight on to extend the walk. See OS Map Extract
