King's Hat 2

This 3.5 mile walk includes a rich variety of habitats including the Beaulieu river, heath, lowland bog and woodland.

Start at the King's Hat Inclosure car park and follow the King's Hat shorter route walk route through the woods, over the river and out onto the open heathland. After the second bridge over the river, emerge from the woods and keep going straight on until you reach the road.

Cross the road and continue on the path across the open heath towards the gap in the trees. On the tree edge, take the right fork over the stream.

Cross over the bridge, perhaps pausing to smell the leaves of the bog myrtle.

Squeeze a few leaves and smell to get a nose clearing menthol experience.

Watch out in the boggy areas for the sun dew plants. These get round the lack of nutrients coming through their roots by eating insects attracted to their sugary surfaces.

Follow the path to the right towards the distant wood. Continue through the King's Hat inclosure and back across the road to the car park.
