Bolton's Bench - Ashurst

Walked November 2022

This 10.85km (6.75mile) route is a gentle, flat route over open heathland with some mature woodland. Start at Bolton's Bench, Lyndhurst, the Ashurst Campsite or the Matley Wood Campsite/car park.

1.

From the Bolton's Bench Car Park, head toward the left hand corner of the cemetery. From here follow parallel to the main road.

2.

Pick up the path over the stream, using the foot bridges to cross.

3.

When you reach the tarmac track, turn right, away from the main road. At the entrance to the institute, turn left along the gravel track towards the railway line.

4.

Over the railway bridge, go through the gate on the right and follow the path until you meet a cycle track going off to the right. Take this and follow it all the way until it turns sharp left at the edge of the wood.

5.

Take the gate straight ahead, out into the open heathland. Follow the track to the left, over the railway bridge.

6.

Continue straight ahead, into Mately Wood and out of the other side. Then follow the path parallel to the road until you return to Bolton's Bench.
