The goals of Nakkertok Race Program's Volunteer Policy include:
Equitable participation in volunteer roles
Reliable support for our team
Strong, vibrant, and knowledgeable ski racing community
Maintain low program fees
Volunteers are what make Nakkertok the successful club it is. It is vital that all race program parents contribute their time and effort in order to provide many positive and enjoyable experiences for our team.
The parental volunteer commitment depends on which program your oldest athlete belongs to. The number of hours per adult is the same, regardless of how many athletes in the family are registered in the race program. The hours listed below are the minimum volunteer commitment; you are absolutely welcome, and encouraged, to volunteer more! Hours are transferable between parents/guardians.
U10/Minis - 3 days = 24 hours (min. 8 hours of race support). Help lead the Cookie Race.
U12/Rabbits - 4 days = 32 hours (min. 16 hours of race support). Leadership in training roles for the Cookie Race.
U14 - 6 days = 48 hours (min. 24 hours of race support). Leadership roles for Cookie Race.
U16 - 6 days = 48 hours (min. 24 hours race support). Help lead Thea's and ENGNE races (Candy Cane Cup, Eastern's...)
U18 - 6 days = 48 hours (min. 24 hours race support). Help lead Thea's and ENGNE races (Candy Cane Cup, Eastern's...)
ENRG - - 2 days = 16 hours (As adult athletes, ENRG athletes are responsible for their own volunteer commitment)
ATHLETES U16+ are strongly encouraged to volunteer at least 1 day
** Chalet/site close up do not count towards volunteer hours**
**Important note: races are a significant revenue generator for Nakkertok. For larger races that are run by ENGNE (Candy Cane Cup, Eastern’s, Nationals), Nakkertok gets paid based on how many volunteers are from our club. Lead positions are paid at a higher rate.
Volunteer Opportunities Document - To assist parents in planning their volunteer commitments for the season, the Volunteer Opportunities document lists many different volunteer roles. There will also be recruitment and sign-up efforts shortly after registration, and throughout the season.
Volunteer Preference Form - Please fill this form out! It really helps connect people to their preferred roles. This isn't a commitment, but more of a place to state where you intend to volunteer.
Volunteer Flow Chart - Still having trouble finding the right volunteer opportunity for you? Try looking at this volunteer flow chart to narrow down the possibilities.
New to Ski Racing? If you are new to ski racing, or have limited experience, that’s OK! There are many opportunities to learn, and people who are happy to mentor you in a role. You will learn new skills and meet great people by jumping in. Please feel free to reach out to Tracy at rpvolunteer@nakkertok.ca if you have any questions, or anticipate difficulty meeting your family’s volunteer commitment.
Officials Training - While not mandatory, it is HIGHLY recommended that you take the online, Level One Official’s Course offered by Nordiq Canada. It is a quick, easy course that packs in a lot of information. Level Two Officials Courses are offered at Nakkertok in the fall. The hours spent on Officials Training count towards your volunteer commitment, after you put your training into practice by supporting a race. Email Tracy at npvolunteer@nakkertok.ca for more details.
