Athlete Transportation Waiver

Athlete Transportation by Parents in Personal and Rental Vehicles

Athletes in Nakkertok racing programs participate in race trips and training camps organized and run by parent volunteers associated with Nakkertok Nordic.  

These trips sometimes involve the transportation of athletes in personal vehicles owned and driven by parents, or in vehicles rented by and driven by parents.  

The transportation of athletes by parents in their vehicles (rented or owned) is the responsibility of parents, not of Nakkertok or its coaches. It is facilitated by volunteer parents, on behalf of the athletes or parents of the athletes participating on these trips.  Nakkertok is not responsible for the transportation of athletes by parents at any time during the trip, in vehicles owned or rented by parents.  

Parent volunteers facilitating this transportation will request that vehicles used by parents for transportation of athletes be:  

• Equipped with winter tires;

• Appropriately insured; and

• In good working order and suitable for winter driving conditions.  

In addition, parents transporting athletes will be asked to: 

• Comply with all applicable legal requirements; 

• Require all passengers to wear seat belts;

• Take frequent breaks;

• Respect speed limits and reduce speed in inclement weather (e.g. snowy, ice, heavy rain);

• Have no alcohol, drugs (including cannabis) or other substance in their system that could impair driving; and 

• Be aware of and modify driving in response to hazardous road conditions.  

However, Nakkertok, the Race Committee, its coaches and its volunteers cannot ensure that these requirements will be met, nor does Nakkertok or the parent volunteers who organize athlete transportation test or verify vehicle safety (including maintenance history or condition), driver competence (caliber, aptitude), or the adequacy of the driver’s insurance policy.    

As a PASSENGER (18 or over) or PARENT of a passenger who will be travelling in a personal or rented vehicle driven by another parent, I acknowledge that there is a risk of serious bodily injury, permanent disability, paralysis or death inherent to being transported in personal and rented vehicles. I accept those risks and dangers and I understand that the organization of athlete transportation by parents in personal vehicles or vehicles rented by parents is the responsibility of parents, and that, as a parent, I can choose whether or not my athlete will participate in transportation organized by the volunteer parent.  

I also acknowledge that the driver is responsible for the safety of passengers travelling in their personal or rental vehicles on Nakkertok trips.  Should I wish to verify the safety of the vehicle in which my athlete is travelling, the adequacy of insurance coverage, or any other aspect of the arrangement, I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to do so directly with the driver.

As a DRIVER of a personal or rental vehicle transporting Nakkertok athletes, I understand that athletes and parents of athletes who are passengers in my vehicle expect me to exercise reasonable skill and judgment in my driving and in the care of my vehicle.  I also acknowledge that the decisions I make as a driver, including but not limited to route choice, number of passengers, and whether to drive in inclement weather, are my own, taking into consideration the safety of my passengers, and are not directed by Nakkertok, its coaches or its volunteers.
