Minister

Revd Deborah Mallett

Deborah has been minister here since 2014. She has a much longer association with this church and the local area and worked previously as a teacher of Modern Languages at Backwell School.

Deborah is proud of her Methodist heritage while also valuing the gifts and graces of varieties of traditions within the worldwide church. At different times and in various places she has had the privilege of worshipping with evangelical Anglicans, African Presbyterians and charismatic Roman Catholics! This wide experience informs her leading of worship and her understanding of church mission.

A keen musician and wordsmith, Deborah has been preaching good news for thirty years. Her community service and commitment to social justice are energized by lively worship and engagement with others. In 2011 she was accepted as a candidate for full-time ordained ministry in the Methodist church and was eventually delighted to be stationed on ‘home ground’ at Nailsea and Backwell.

Deborah is married to Mark, a retired headteacher, and has two adult children. In her free-time she enjoys choral singing, trips to the theatre, countryside rambles and meeting up with friends.

Patty Lou BRYANT

Patty Lou came to the UK from Canada in 2020 to study with Youth with a Mission and heard God’s call to community ministry. She is absolutely thrilled to be working with us in Nailsea and Backwell! She is passionate about meeting people, about making connections between life and faith and about inviting people of all ages to continue their walk with God with the support of the local church.

Patty Lou is always out and about in our community on foot or riding her electric bike! She loves all the footpaths and historical areas that she can explore. She has two adult daughters, one a teacher in Aylesbury and the other a social worker in Canada. Patty Lou is very fond of coffee and a chat!
