Eco-congregation

Eco-Church

We have been working to improve our environmental standing since a church away day held in May 2008. Through projects, teaching, and worship we have acknowledged that we all have our part to play in caring for the earth that, as the Psalmist declares (24), belongs to God.

We were awarded an Eco Congregation status in February 2011 and again in February 2014. This environmental accreditation scheme has since been replaced by the Eco Church scheme. Under this scheme we have reached the silver status.

The Eco Church scheme is self-evaluated for the bronze and silver levels and audited for gold. Under the scheme Churches evaluate their eco performance in relation to:

Their worship and teaching;

How they look after their buildings and land;

How they engage with their local community and in global campaigns, and

The personal environmental lifestyles of their congregation

The awards are based on the overall performance in each of these areas. We score gold in worship teaching and buildings but we have more work to do in the other areas to reach the same level of attainment.
