Tube rack

My lady had received as a present some special teas in tubes, similar to the one on the picture on the left.

After she had enjoyed the tea (very much) we were wondering what to do with the tubes. So I thought, I can make a little rack, so they can be used to put a flower in or some nice little things.

In the design phase, as on the screen you work with an enlarged model, it was difficult to remember how small everything is. Especially at the sides, the gaps become very small.

I used thin ply (3mm) - but it would have been better to use some special ply used for model building as the grain was a little too rough, which caused some splintering.

I used a 0.8mm bit with a very slow speed (80 mm/min) and multiple depths (0.2 mm).

After breaking 5 bits (whoops!) I took a bit and broke it in to myself. Having the shoulder length reduced, the but was less prone to breaking.

It was a first try to do some of the finer work on the CNC, and I must say, I was rather pleased with the result!
