Sueños en el Desierto

Graciela Flores Miranda

The goal of this artwork is to provide a personal perspective on immigration and the search for the American Dream. By focusing on emotionally evocative personal narratives and experiences, the work seeks to challenge misconceptions about immigrants.

The experimental video makes use of representational and abstract visuals to accompany accounts of migration journeys.

By focusing on this personal perspective, the work seeks to foster meaningful connections with the audience, and entice them to acknowledge the struggles of people who are often overlooked: to reflect, appreciate, and respect other people's stories, and in so doing, recognize that shared connections are what make us human.

About the Artist

My creative practice seeks address social and cultural issues including human impact on the environment, and debates over immigration and the struggle for the American Dream. I draw inspiration from collective and personal experiences of migration.

I primarily use video/film to illustrate the valuable stories of people who have made every effort to be successful in life. The materials and process I use vary depending on each project and how abstract or figurative I plan for the artwork to be.

I make art for viewers to discover something about themselves and those around them that they may have otherwise not thought about. The goal is for people to gain a different perspective and develop connections with the topics being communicated so they are empowered and potentially moved to help those in need.
