The Aliso Niguel Theatre Company's production of High School Musical Jr. was the culmative product of a week long theatre camp we hosted for incoming 7th-9th graders. Staff & company members served as the production team, teaching the kids of each area of theatre both on and off the stage, all while preparing their production.
As both the Stage Manager and Technical Director, I was in charge of organizing our campers who wanted to strictly work on tech, as well as the regular duties of an SM & TD. I was in charge of organizing designers in their respective technical areas, reading through the script to cross reference technical needs of the show, trained Assistant Stage Managers, stage managed the production, and called cues.
In order to communicate the set changes with our running crew, I had to make the set change list relatively easy to look at for kids. Here I have outlined all of our 17 set changes in one place for them.
As Stage Manager, I had to organize my campers into a running crew based on our two casts. Each of the students had one set piece they were responsible for each show, and the person who was playing the same role as them in the other cast would have the same piece so they could work together to talk about their changes.
