The Pliant Girls is an adaptation of Aeschylus’ The Suppliants, following the consequences of a single father promising his 50 daughters to their 50 cousins when they were old enough to be married. Brown focuses on 5 of the 50 sisters and their intendeds, and the traumas that come with this horrifying arrangement. The sisters decide to take fate into their own hands and follow their leader Courtney's plan to kill all (but one) of the men. Brown structures the play as a plea to the gods for forgiveness, and the sisters recount this story in their defense. Who's to say what you would or wouldn’t do in their shoes?
