Proposed Building Renovations For the Memorial Union Building
Michigan Technological University plans to expand the MUB in the coming years
An increase in enrollment has brought on the necessity to modernize the current layout of several floors
Improvements located on Basement, Groundfloor, 1st Floor, and Second Floor levels
Located on Michigan Technological Unviversity's Campus, North of US 41 sits the MUB. It is located between the J. Robert Van Pelt and John and Ruanne Opie Library and Admin building
Recreate a space for a student union
Reassociate the building as a meeting places for students to recreate and collaborate
Renovate open spaces and enclosed spaces to allow for better and more collaboration
Knocking walls down and creating new study rooms and expanding spaces for current organizations residing in the building
Utilize existing spaces more efficiently
Eliminating features that are no longer used/practical to better utilize floorspace
Filling in the tiered seating in the commons
Opened in 1952
Funds raised by The Alumni Association kick off funding
More housing and auxiliary services were needed after WWII
Desire to create a space for students - form a student union
Originally had a bowling alley and billiards in the basement
The Alley - Makerspace now occupies this area
Hotel rooms throughout the building to house quests of MTU
Addition of hotel rooms allows the MUB to hold a liquor license
Building was added on to in 1989
Added a food court and extra conference rooms
Recessed floor in the commons was originally meant to create tiered seating for events
Building houses: Bookstore, staff offices, conference rooms, food court, The Alley, Student Org spaces, Alumni Lounge
