Final Group Project

The class is divided into groups of 4 students. The group with a bigger or smaller size is not allowed unless with the approval from the instructor. Basic Briefing/training Sessions will be conducted in the lab sessions to familiarize students with the methodology and areas of consideration for each task. The tasks are to be performed in the given sequence and time frame. Supervision and Consultation will be made available during the entire process. Mid-way through the project, an Interim Report and a Progress Presentation are required from each group for assessment by the instructor. Towards the end of the semester, each group shall present their work in the form of a concise Final Report and Google Site Webpage with full working details. A final assessment will then be made on overall group performance for this subject

A project webpage should be delivered through the Google Site. The instructor will create a course website for CEE 4020. Each group will be assigned a webpage in the course website. Groups are required to introduce their team, the project, BIM modeling, 4D scheduling, facility management discussions, and other items you think is important in the group webpage. The course webpage will be published on the Internet at the end of this semester. 

Background:

The Michigan Technological University plans to renovate the Memorial Union Building (MUB) (https://www.mtu.edu/memorialunion/) sometime in the future. Your company is hired to model the MUB with forming a common base for  FOUR given tasks. It is noted that you are only required to model the Basement, Ground Floor, First Floor, and Second Floor. Other parts of the building is NOT required. AutoCAD drawing of MUB will be provided for the final project.

Task 1: BIM Modelling

• Learn the floor plans of the MUB from MTU website with estimating the dimensions of MUB provided on its website

• Establish a BIM model using Autodesk Revit for MUB

• You are encouraged to learn the history of MUB

Task 2: Programme Planning and Construction Simulation

• Prepare a master programme for the MUB using Microsoft Project

• Link the master programme for construction simulations of the MUB with the BIM model using Autodesk Navisworks 

Task 3: BIM in Property and Facility Management

• Prepare a report to advise how other software, such as Ecotect, Map 3D and Archibus (not limited to these and you need to discuss two of them at least), can be applied in the Property and Facility Management for your project

• You don’t need to operate these softwares. Only provide a section to discuss in your final report

Task 4: Presentation in Google Sites

• The instructor will release a course website via Google Sites. Each group is required to work on this course website

• Present the information and results in above 3 tasks in your group webpage
