Saturday, 29th May 2021- 29 students attended a fun workshop conducted by Micronet International College (MIC) at the University Technology Brunei on the Internet of Things, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. They were briefed on the courses available together with the minimum requirements of the courses available at MIC and had interaction activities with the speakers through introduction of smart devices, playing with VR headsets, and AR on google 3D animals while taking pictures with life sized animals where they had many Q&A sessions where gifts were given as prizes.
9th June 2021- A workshop by the name Sadaqah Your Time Programme was conducted by SEALnet Non Government Organisation through Benchlab. The aims of this workshop were about being a leader at service, giving back to our community , building personal and employability skills. Students did some activities which included ongoing discussions about certain topics about the world. The aim of the discussions were to build up the mindset to make one of them a better leader by having others share different perspectives and ways of thinking. Other than that, students were asked to understand that others have their own opinions and that as leaders we have to respect each and everyone of them
Thursday, 8th April 2021- A visit and tour to the Royal Brunei Airlines Hangar 1. With 38 students from Year 10, Preu-1&2 attending the trip where they were briefed on the different career opportunities at RBA and were reminded of the importance of building their skills for their future. The students were given a tour around the headquarters, some of them included the maintenance area of the plane, the briefing room for flight attendants before they hop on the plane to be taught in a more in-depth manner about the airplane. At the end of the trip, they ended the day by doing an activity of painting handprints of their palm on a banner.
A week packed with informational talks and educational trips to help students take interest in different choices of career pathways, to help them broaden choices in different career pathways available for them and to further lock in on a decided career. In conjunction with the first day of the career week was the launching of our Career Centre’s Website on Monday, 5th April 2021, a website to act as a source of reference for Maktab Sains students, teachers and parents.
Monday, 5th April 2021– Students were briefed about the courses offered, the requirements, career prospects and methods to apply for the course by respected speakers from the Institute of Health Science, UBD.
Monday, 5th April 2021 – The school conducted a career week, where different professionals were invited to give a talk. One of them were five speakers that were invited to give an in depth talk on different areas of engineering. These include Dr Lim Pang Jen, the programme lead of Civil Engineering, Awang Zainidi bin Hj Abd Hamid, the programme lead Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Pg Dr Seri Rahayu binti Ya’akub, the programme lead of Mechanical Engineering, and Dr Reddy Prasad, the programme lead of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering. Students were briefed about different ways of teaching different engineering courses in University Technology Brunei (UTB), the grades needed to get accepted by specific engineering courses, and more.
Monday, 5th April 2021– For those wishing to specialize in cellular communications/ICT courses, Beyond Tomorrow, experts in wireless technologies, CEO, Mr Tee Kok Keong shared on the career path and the skills needed towards Telecommunication and Broadcasting Industry.
Tuesday, 6th April 2021- Students attended The Entrepreneurship forum where they were briefed on the different journeys , challenges and advice from 3 alumni entrepreneurs who represented companies of the Chocolate Origin Brunei, Tapow Brunei and Smart Space Brunei.
Monday, 5th April 2021– Students interested in becoming a teacher signed up for the talk, lead by Cikgu Rosdiana binti Tengah accompanied by Cikgu Khairani, CIkgu Maziah and Cikgu Zainol, whom together gave a talk about the updated selection and recruitment for government teachers through ‘Program Perantis dan Program Immersi’
Wednesday, 7th April 2021- Coffee with parents, a first time initiative by the Careers Centre, This informal session is intended to allow parents to understand the services provided by the centre and to open opportunities for questions, discussions and suggestions with career teachers and parents.
Monday, 5th April 2021- Dr Sarah Ghazali is a recent PhD graduate in Comparative Literature from University College London (UCL). Dr Sarah is also the current Festival Director of The Tiny Lit Fest 2021. She had the chance to give a talk in the school’s Lecture Theatre to students who had an interest in arts and humanities. Students were briefed about the myths and misconceptions about taking arts and humanities as a course and how to challenge them, courses offered in Brunei, and application tips. She also shared her personal experiences in taking humanities, some of which were confidential informations.
Beyond that, she also shared her journey from Maktab Sains to studying in the UK, as she mentioned that she was a Maktab Sains student in the year 2003-2008.
Saturday, 9th April 2021- A professional mixed martial artist, co-founder of the Khalifa Mixed Martial Arts gym in Kiarong,Brunei , Ahmed Faez Anuar aka Eazy Anuar, gave a motivational talk about passion, practice and profit. And ways to turn your interest/hobby to a sustainable business.
