Now, this section is definitely a work in progress, so yes, it is a bit more unorganized here. Think of this page as "Sub Plans" if you want... pick and choose some things here and there for those times you need a filler activity, or the kids just aren't getting it, towards the end of the year, the beginning of the year, that weird week before Christmas, those half days. And, remember, you got this!
Here are some links to some quick fast sub plans when you ain't got time for nothing!! Just print, make 30 copies and have a damn sick day!
Quick Word Search on USA History Use these two puzzles as bell-ringers when your sub walks in! Answers provided!
ELA for a whole week! All you need to do is print the packet... Print the teacher pages in color and the students pages in black and white.. Kids will look at art from van Gogh and Rivera and compare and contrast, make observations, write essays, practice some grammar and learn some vocabulary. This is best for 5th grade up but modify at will. If you are sick and need time, just print one color copy for the sub, and one student copy per student and go have some chicken soup!

Also, get some busy work for that sub, like these handwriting practice sheets.

Group Work Name Tags when I have students work in groups of three, each student has a job title, these name tags are put in those lanyard clips so everyone knows their job and it's very clear. Works like a charm.
One of the centers is "Start a story" Kids use this worksheet and a photo and turn it into a story. But where do you get good photos to start these activities? Right here!

Okay, we don't call it "Stupid Poker" with the class but you know what I'm talking about. If not, read the rules for this super fun game right here. I suggest printing them on card stock and laminating... the back side having that "Brain Game" logo and the other side having the card.

Calvin and Hobbes Bulletin Board
Classroom Behavior: Punch Cards
Editable Name plates for desks Save yourself some money and print these for the first day of school, let kids decorate and then laminate at will! :)
This a great way to get acquainted with students, get them learning the technology, and just fill some time before or after the big holidays. I put each individual students name on each slide, and then let them have at it. They have a day to present to the class, and so far it's worked out pretty good! This is a Google Slides.
For those of you trying to figure out what to do on the first days of school, here are some ideas that I use...
Scavenger Hunt
Various Give one/ Get One Activities
Headband Games
Exploring the science bins
Week of Inspirational Math from Youcubed.com
Statistics on our class I also like to measure the kids because we can learn about average, median, data sets ... we can measure each kid, predict the next kid, revisit this in the winter to see who has grown... lots of fun stuff

Teaching Cursive: You Tube Video
I always spend the few weeks of school teaching cursive: It is a very low stress way to start establishing routines for entering the room, taking pride in your work, things like that. You can make custom cursive worksheets using this link, from Worksheetworks.com.
A fourth grader should be typing about 11 words per minute at 95% accuracy. By the end of the year, I want my class typing at least 20. It's a life skill and it definitely makes school life a lot easier! Here is the slideshow I made to guide them through the first days of typing lessons... I use kidztype.com and it just the best!
How to Email Someone via Gmail
Yeah, I was pretty surprised how many of my students have over 1,000 emails! They have had these school accounts since kindergarten and no one ever taught them specifically how to email! Click here for the Keynote (formatted for a Mac).
And yes, the myspace one was put in for fun! Just to get the conversation going!
Open House
Yeah, so all the parents are coming in and it's scary because well... you want to look good and you want the kids to be proud but it's the end of the year and you're exhausted! So, here are some quick fun ideas that make everyone happy and take little effort
Word Art Bulletin Board Assign this link to every kid on Google Classroom. Give them the prompt "What did you do this year?" Brainstorm some ideas as class and let them play with it. They can change the font, change the size and shape and color. Give everyone twenty minutes, have them send a screenshot to you and BAM! Instant bulletin board! I made a quick generic example to the right there. Here is another Word Art Resource
Another fun board is to have kids make kite shaped paragraphs about anything: What learned, what they remember, the field trips, whatever... "This year flew by but we..."
For Parents as they visit: The word can be "PROUD" and you can have people who come into the room write. Adults can write what they are proud of about their kid, when admin comes in, they can write too.. Kids can write... I would encourage no names and then just everone share!
Last Days of School... Testing
State Testing is weird... Especially those performance tasks. Here are the three resources I use to prepare my students. Yes, we also do the IABs but I like a paper copy of these things to get them learning about the critical thinking skills involved.
Last Days of School.... for you
