Gangsta's Paradise
by Coolio
English (Français)
Like the real Olympics (“Basketball," “Swimming," “Weightlifting,” etc.), our special musical Olympics have different events (piano, rapping, singing, drums, bass, ukulele, guitar, etc.).
The goal of our Gangsta’s Paradise Olympics is to become as good as possible in as many events as possible. Everyone will have to complete one compulsory event, which is the piano event, and as many free events as possible (you do what you can and want to do, and you do it to the best of your ability). The difficulty level of the compulsory piano event ranges from very easy to pretty challenging - you choose what you can manage.
Free events in the Gangsta’s Paradise Olympics could be: singing, rapping, bass, guitar, drums, ukulele, dancing, and any other instrument or activity you can present to me/your classmates. You don’t have to present the whole song, a verse and a chorus are enough (but of course you may choose to present more).
Please make sure to “train” enough for the Olympics (in school or at home if you can), experienced “athletes” can serve as “coaches” and help students that need assistance. The presentation of your results can be done either by presenting them “live” in school, or by adding videos to this assignment and turning it in.

Train your rapping and singing skills (remember: you can turn down the tempo of the video to make it easier for you to follow).
This version includes the vocals.
Download this mp3 file to play/rap/sing along to if you'd like (in this version, I set the tempo to 157 BPM)
Use this Karaoke version to further solidify your rapping and/or singing skills.
This version does not include the vocals.
Download this Karaoke version if you'd like (tempo again: 157 BPM)
This playlist will give you lots of different videos to help you train for the “Gangsta's Paradise Olympics.” The first video will demonstrate to you all the different difficulty levels of the piano event. You can read the music, follow the dropping Tetris-like midi blocks, or look at the hand on the piano. Enjoy and good luck “competing in the Olympics!”
With this score, you can practice for your “Piano Event” of the ”Gangsta's Paradise Olympics” and choose the level of difficulty. Enjoy!
This video will give you the basics, step by step. For more, check out the playlist above.
You can play what she plays in the verse for the whole song (no need to play the more difficult bass line in the chorus). However, I would use the two lowest string instead of just one:
