Music’s power over your brain
When we talk about different types of music, like pop, rock, or hip-hop, we have to be a bit careful with the words we use. Different languages and people might have different names for the same thing (as multilingual people you know this already). Sometimes, even the artists don't really like the names people give to their music!
But don't worry, understanding a little about when music happened and what it might sound like is great fun. It's like having a map to explore different sounds and styles, and be able to name them. Below is a list that shows you some types of “popular music,” not “art music” (what people usually call “classical music”) .
Remember, the key is to enjoy the music and maybe even find your own favorites! 🎶
Note: The dates mentioned are approximate and may vary based on individual artist careers or the emergence of specific subgenres within each musical style.
