Hey there, “recording artists” ;-)
I have done quite some research before buying equipment for school, which you can actually borrow from the music department to try out over a weekend or sometimes even over school vacations (given your parents and you sign this contract - in case something happens to the equipment).
This playlist that I have put together for you starts with an essential overview of the history and specifics of audio recording (videos 1-2).
Useful practical tipps are laid out in videos (3-11). Enjoy!
Your home recording studio:
For your own set-up at home, you need to decide what you are most likely to be using from now on:
Option a) exclusively real audio recording of vocals, plugged-in or acoustic instruments
Option b) exclusively vocals and acoustic instruments or “on-board” synthesized instruments that are already included in your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation)
Option a):
If you intend to not just record vocals, but also real instruments (guitar, bass, etc.), you will need an audio interface to plug those instruments in your computer/mobile device. In this case, the following bundles might be interesting for you:
Microphone set-up with pop-filter and screen (233€)
Option b):
If you are only interested in recording vocals and acoustic instruments (via microphone) and the “on-board” instruments, you don’t really need an audio interface and could just focus on an:
Easy-to-use, plug-and-play USB microphone like this one (180€)
Of course, you can order from online suppliers like Thomann, but a visit to Keymusic here in Brussels might also be useful. You print out the prices of bundles you have researched, take the online-offer to them, and ask what they could do for you (because you want to support local businesses, and your music teacher, Mr. Tauche, recommended the store). Maybe you will get an even better deal, or some valuable tipps from the experts.
To record your music, you can use GarageBand (free software for Apple devices) or Stagelight (software for Android, Windows, macOS, iOS, Chromebook).
I tried something myself. You can definitely do better than that! ;-)
Task: Create a recording (audio, , audio-visual) of the Ring Poem in whatever language you want (http://tolkien-inspiration.blogspot.com/2012/07/ring-verse-in-50-languages.html)
Possible formats: a) audio (mp.3, AAC, etc.), b) audio with backdrop (PowerPoint, Press, Slideshow, etc.), or c) audio visual (mp.4, .m4v, AVI, FLV)
Goal: get the best result you can, especially sound; use the best equipment you can get (this time not from your music teacher ;-); create the best effect possible, be creative and resourceful.
Name your file like this: “First and Last Name - Lord of the Rings Audio” (Example: “Justin Bieber - Lord of the Rings Audio”, ) and add it to your assignment on TEAMS (add work link) - check this tutorial for help.
English:
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them,
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie
