This was a good case of not seeing the whole picture.
I was on the lookout for Hypogymnia physodes since we only had found H. tubolosa on the excursion so far when I encountered this hypogymnia growing on a fallen oak. Quickly scanning for soralia I found lip shaped soralia leading my thoughts to H. physodes.
On second look those soralia belong to a Hypotrachyna afroveoluta/revoluta growing next and into to the Hypogymnia in question. The Hypogymnia had no features that allowed me to further identify it.
Lip shaped soralia of Hypotrachyna sp. growing interleaved with the swollen lobes of a Hypogymnia.
