Topics

Topics that will be addressed in this 32-week Mindfulness Scope and Sequence are an introduction to mindfulness, self-awareness, self-regulation, gratitude, kindness, compassion, empathy, and resilience.

Overview of each topic:

  • Introduction to Mindfulness: Students will be able to develop an understanding of mindfulness and will be able to identify and practice mindfulness-based skills in their everyday life. Students will be able to use their sense to be more present in the moment.

  • Self-Awareness: Students will be able to identify their own strengths and feelings.

  • Self- Regulation: Students will be able to identify emotions and strategies that can help them in that moment.

  • Gratitude: Students will develop an understanding of what it means to be grateful and to foster gratitude personally. Students will also be able to define gratitude, recognize examples of gratitude, identify things that they are grateful for, and practice gratitude in their everyday life.

  • Kindness: Students will understand the benefits of kindness personally and with others. Students will also discuss the importance of kindness. Students will also identify acts of kindness they can perform.

  • Compassion: Students will be able to identify compassion and discuss the importance of compassion for others and how this might apply to themselves.

  • Empathy: Students will define empathy, discuss what empathy is and it’s importance. Students will explore examples of empathy to themselves and others. Students will also recognize emotions in others.

  • Resilience: Students will develop the ability to bounce back from setbacks and learn from mistakes. They will also begin to understand mistakes or setbacks as opportunities to learn.
