This genus contains only five species, which are spread variably across east and central Africa from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Kenya to the Caroline Islands, and north to Eritrea. All species have prominent keels on the segments, a trait unique to the tribe Trachystreptini. Only A. strongylopis constrictus from Kenya is known to have been kept in captivity.
From what little information is available, it seems that this species does well with standard millipede care, though it is mostly fossorial in its behavior and therefore is not usually seen on the surface. There are no reports of it having been bred in captivity.
A. s. constrictus is a greyish color with prominent ridges and keels on all the segments, giving it a very rough appearance. The legs, head, and antenna are a reddish color; it reaches to about 4-6 cm/1.5-2.3".
