Student Learning

An exemplary high school recognizes the importance of each individual student. Staff within the school will make a unified effort to communicate and demonstrate their concern for each student. It is important that each student feel they are a valued member of the school community. As a high school we will:

  • Hold high expectations for student achievement with every student meeting or exceeding grade level standards in all content areas

  • Have all students work toward clearly identified goals

  • Tailor instruction to meet the needs of each student

  • Ensure that students not achieving their goals receive regular timely interventions and support

  • Prepare students to participate in a global environment

  • Provide opportunities to develop leadership skills

  • Foster ethical and responsible behavior

  • Require students to treat everyone with courtesy, dignity, and respect

Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

An exemplary high school provides students with a common core curriculum complemented with electives and extracurricular activities. The high school will state the expectations it has for all students and regularly monitor each student's progress using a variety of methods. As a high school, we will:

  • Ensure students meet grade level standards identified in the essential outcomes

  • Differentiate instruction based on student needs

  • Insist educators are knowledgeable about and use best practices of instruction and assessment

  • Monitor learning on a regular basis with the use of common and formative assessments

  • Use a variety of intervention strategies to meet student needs

  • Employ data-driven instructional strategies

  • Integrate technology in the curriculum

  • Actively engage students in critical thinking and problem-solving simulations

  • Teach students how to learn

  • Foster culturally responsible and responsive students
