The scotch yoke actuator is a mechanism that converts linear motion from a sliding bar into rotational motion. The sliding bar is coupled to a piston and yoke in a way that when a force is applied, it will cause the yoke to rotate. [8]
They are typically used to open and close valves and dampers. In the oil & gas industry they are used to actuate valves for isolating flow in pipes. They are used in mining for isolating nozzles in rocks washing lines. Also, in the water and wastewater industry for isolating feed lines, filters and tanks. [9]
