All seniors should meet routinely with Mr. Wochner during first semester for assistance with their college applications. If you have questions or need support, simply visit Guidance and make an appointment to meet with him.
Seniors need to continue their focus on their grades throughout the school year. All offers of college admission are subject to a review of a student's final senior transcript.
Watch the EVENTS page for college-related events happening throughout the school year here at Marian.
Marian hosts a College Financial Aid Presentation each fall. This year's Financial Aid Night will be on Wednesday, September 18 from 6:00pm - 7:00 pm. The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) will present changes to the FAFSA applications and process. All are welcome to attend!
Consult FAFSA's website for valuable information regarding the FAFSA. Some colleges will also require the CSS Profile to be completed and submitted to determine a student's eligibility for need-based aid. A list of schools that require the CSS Profile is available on CollegeBoard's website.
Also, be sure to check individual colleges' financial aid websites to find out when their specific deadlines are for filing the FAFSA and the CSS Profile.
Please be sure to pay attention to application deadlines and turn in your transcript requests to Guidance. Transcript request forms are available in Guidance or online.
College representatives visit Marian during the school day throughout the school year. Students interested in meeting with a particular representative must sign up for his or her visit in SCOIR at least one day prior to the date of the visit. Students will receive passes to attend college visits from Mrs. Diamond on the day of the visit. Only seniors and juniors may attend these visits.
These meetings are a valuable way to obtain general and specific information about colleges, to have questions answered, to express interest, and to establish personal contact with college admission representatives. College visits are listed in SCOIR, on the College Counseling page of our website, on the Marian Website Calendar, and on a calendar hanging up on a bulletin board in the Guidance office.
Planning a college campus visit? Don't forget to contact the admissions department of the school to formally schedule your visit. If possible, take a guided tour, meet with an admissions counselor, and meet with a faculty member and student in your department of interest.
Be sure to contact the admissions offices, financial aid offices, and specific departments of the schools you are applying to for any additional scholarship information that may be available--some scholarships require separate application forms, beyond the application for admission. Many scholarships have early deadlines, so you should be checking on scholarship availability as soon as possible. Be sure to check out the listing of scholarship opportunities that is maintained in the guidance office as this list includes national, local and internal (Marian-sponsored) scholarships.
