Juniors

Juniors need to focus on academics this year. Cumulative GPA's as of the end of junior year are reported when applying to colleges in the fall of senior year. An upward trend in grades, especially if they've been lower than desired up until this point, can positively influence admissions decisions. Juniors also need to continue the career/interest search and the process of developing a post-secondary plan.

Mr. Kruse will visit the Advisory classrooms in early January to share PSAT/NMSQT Scores and ACT test registration information. The ACT test will be offered here at Marian on April 15, 2023. Students who wish to take the ACT test (on any scheduled test date) must register here. The registration deadline for the April test is March 10, 2023. We are unable to reserve seats just for Marian students, so timely registration is of the essence. If you have a learning disability and wish to take the test with accommodations, you must fill out an application to be coordinated with Mr. Taylor, Academic Resource Director, and submit it to ACT for consideration. More information is available regarding ACT Accommodations here.

All juniors are required to meet with Mr. Wochner, College Counselor, at least once during second semester to discuss their college searches and post-secondary plans. Many students choose to meet with Mr. Wochner before second semester and also include family members in their meetings. Any students or families wishing to schedule meetings with Mr. Wochner may do so through Mrs. Diamond.

Mr. Wochner shared information on post-secondary options and things to consider when starting to build a college list. Mr. Wochner also discussed Junior Post-Secondary Survey's and Junior Meetings.

College Representative Visits

College representatives visit Marian during the school day throughout the school year. These meetings are a valuable way to obtain general and specific information about colleges, to have questions answered, to express interest, and to establish personal contact with college admission representatives.

Juniors and seniors interested in meeting with a particular representative must register for the visit in SCOIR at least one day prior to the date of the visit. Students will receive passes to attend college visits from Mrs. Diamond on the day of the visit.

College visits are listed in SCOIR, on the College Counseling page of our website, on the TV's around the school, on the Marian Website Calendar, and on a calendar hanging up on a bulletin board in the Guidance office.

College Information Night

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 24, 2023, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. for this year's College Information Night. This event is focused on our Juniors, but all Marian students and their families are welcome to attend. Check the Events Page of this website for information about this program.
