Graduation Requirements
Marian Central requires twenty-four (24) credits for graduation:
4 credits of English
4 credits of Theology
3 credits of Mathematics
3 credits of Physical Education/Health/First Aid
3 credits of Science (including Biology)
3 credits of Social Studies - Including Consumer Economics, US History and US Government
2 credits of Foreign Language, Art, Music or Theater
2 Elective credits
The minimum course load for each student each semester is six (6) credits taken at Marian Central. All students must successfully complete six (6) credits per year. All required courses plus the two electives that will count toward graduation must first be taken at Marian Central. Additional elective courses may be taken through an approved summer program.
College Admission Requirements
Requirements for admission vary by each college/university. These requirements are often stated within the admissions portion of most schools' websites. Be aware of any requirements for high school courses beyond which are required for graduation at Marian Central. For instance, it's important to note that some schools are now requiring 1 year of fine arts, as well as 2 years of a foreign language in high school to be competitive for admission. Also, some schools prefer or require 3 credits of Social Studies courses.
Students interested in a science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) field should consider the following guidelines:
English: Four credits in academic, honors, or AP courses
Mathematics: Four credits in academic, honors, or AP courses
Science: Three or four credits in academic, honors, or AP courses
Social Science: Three credits in academic, honors, or AP courses
World Language: At least two credits in the same language
Others: Choose courses that will give as broad a base as possible.
Students interested in humanities or social sciences including business, education, social work, fine arts, law, politics, language, etc. should consider the following guidelines:
English: Four credits in academic, honors, or AP courses
Mathematics: Four credits in academic, honors, or AP courses
Science: At least three credits in academic, honors, or AP courses
Social Science: At least three credits in academic, honors, or AP courses
World Language: At least two credits in the same language
Others: Choose courses that will give as broad a base as possible.
Students interested in obtaining a two year degree or a certificate, joining the military, or entering the work place upon graduation should consider the following guidelines:
English: Four credits
Mathematics: At least three credits
Science: At least three credits
Social Science: Two credits
World Language: Not required, but two credits of the same language are recommended.
Others: Choose courses that will give as broad a base as possible.
