Matthew 4:23-25
Jesus Heals the Sick
23Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. 24News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them. 25 Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.
Jesus leaves Nazareth and goes to live in Capernaum, in the region of Galilee... Nazareth did not have the number of believers and its (Nazareth's) reputation was not always a positive one...In John 1:46, Nathaniel says, "Nazareth, Can anything good come from their?"...So He leaves and finds a place better suited for His ministry and teachings...
Jesus goes throughout Galilee and teaches in different synagogues, preaching the good news...He appears to be welcome in the different synagogues, and His ability to get along with others is shown because each synagogue would have different members and different opinions on how things are seen and done...
The sicknesses specifically mentioned here in Matthew are severe pain, demon-possessed, seizures, and the paralyzed (but we know He heals the blind, skin diseases, leprosy, and any and every disease)...
He heals each of these, and every disease and sickness among the people...The news about Him spread all over Syria, Decapolis, Jerusalem, and the regions of Galilee and Judea...His healing ability is unsurpassed by anyone in history...He is truly our Master Physician...His popularity and following would grow...
Humanity has many needs...We have health needs, spiritual needs, shelter needs, our daily bread, clothing needs, financial needs, etc...Jesus can fulfill and heal all these needs...Jesus healed so many that there was a natural following, because of His ability to heal every disease...
But God wants faithfulness, not popularity...Jesus died for our sins... The reason He came was for our souls, that were sick... He died on the cross to take away our sins, and to heal our souls...
