Job 1:6-12
God Allows the evil one to Seek Job
6 One day the angels came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them. 7 The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”
Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”
8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”
9 “Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. 10 “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. 11 But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”
12 The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”
Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
Matthew 4:23-25
Jesus Heals the Sick
23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. 24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them. 25 Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.
God is in control of all things...And in a mysterious way we see that in the above different stories of Job and of Jesus healing the sick...God allows the evil one to get into Job's life...In fact, it is He who brings up the idea of the evil one getting into Job's life...The LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job?...There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”...
And then much later in another lesson we see that Jesus is beginning His Ministry...And this is one of the first things that He did...He went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people...News about Him spread all over Syria, and people brought to Him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and He healed them...Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed Him.
And as we read through these verses we see an emphasis on Jesus healing many people at the start of His Teachings...Different people brought to Him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and He healed them...Jesus was a Great Healer and He healed all the people brought to Him, regardless of their illness...Jesus came for the lost sheep of Israel, and yet He does not heal everyone in Israel...And if He did we are not told in the Bible that He healed all the people of Israel...
So, I must ask myself two things about these verses...Why did God point out Job to satan, and why didn't have Jesus to heal all the people of Israel?...We see the power of God in Job, and we see many miracles by Jesus in the gospels...My thoughts are that all these things are part of God's Plan...He wanted us to read and learn from the Book of Job and that good people do suffer...God wanted Jesus to heal many, and do many other miracles in public...And God's Plan was to bring Jesus to Israel and help the lost sheep, and then to preach the gospel to the rest of the world...Healing all the people sick in Israel when Jesus arrived, was not a part of His Plan...But Job in the end is healed by God...And when we finish the four gospels, we realize that Jesus is the Messiah, the One who was to come and show us the Truth, the Way, and the Life...
God's plan is just that, God's Plan...We have to trust what He does, regardless of our understanding of His Plan...
