Matthew 4:18-22
The Calling of the First Disciples
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 20 At once they left their nets and followed him.
21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
Would you have picked the same Twelve or men just like the Twelve that Jesus picked???...Man likes popular things...We are intrigued by celebrities...In fact, it seems we are fascinated by celebrities by the amount of media celebrities receive...But these were not men of celebrity or well known men in that respect...These were working and ordinary men in the community...
Jesus first four disciples chose were fisherman, also a tax collector gets chosen...The Twelve were far from celebrities...You might imagine how much attention and status the Twelve would have received, not having any celebrity status...How much attention would they receive from the pubic???...
When you look at people and have feelings for different people you see or meet...Ask yourself what did Jesus see in people (and the Twelve)???...What do I not see???...God made no ordinary people...All are special is His eyes...
The Twelve He chose (less and including even Judas) have carried on the Truth and the story that has lived for over two thousand years...
