Matthew 1:23
Immanuel, God is With Us
23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
Job 42:1-6
Job Listened to God's Questions
1 Then Job replied to the Lord:
2 “I know that you can do all things;
no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
3 You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’
Surely I spoke of things I did not understand,
things too wonderful for me to know.
4 “You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.’
5 My ears had heard of you
but now my eyes have seen you.
6 Therefore I despise myself
and repent in dust and ashes.”
When Jesus was born He would be called Immanuel, which means God with us...There is this hope that God is very near us and is Personal...There is hope that He cares for us...And I think the name of Immanuel is a very appropriate name for Him, because we want God with us...
As we go about our lives, each and everyday, we have this desire for God to notice us and to care for us, and to comfort us, when things do not go right for us...So we have this need for God...We have this need to know He is present or near...Job knew this...And in Job's dialogue throughout the Book of Job, we hear him questioning and looking for God and looking for God's answers...Job needed to know that God was near, and so do we...And when Job saw the Presence of God, things were then alright for him...This maybe one of the lessons of the Book of Job is our need for God...
