Figuristika is a creative costume-making challenge where participants design and showcase wearable pieces inspired by mathematical shapes, patterns, figures, and concepts. Contestants bring mathematics to life through fabric, structure, color, and form—turning numbers and geometry into stunning visual art. This event highlights imagination, craftsmanship, and the beautiful connection between math and design.
Participants may join individually or by pair, depending on organizer guidelines.
Costumes must be math-inspired, incorporating visible elements such as:
Geometric shapes (triangles, polygons, spirals)
Mathematical patterns (tessellations, symmetry, fractals)
Concepts (pi, Fibonacci sequence, parabola, etc.)
Participants must design and create their own costume, either handmade or repurposed, as long as it is original and school-appropriate.
No pre-purchased full costumes allowed; only base materials may be store-bought.
Contestants must submit a brief concept description explaining the math elements used in their design.
Costume must be wearable and safe, allowing the model (participant or chosen representative) to walk comfortably on stage.
Participants will have a designated time or date for final costume presentation during the Math Fair program.
Props are allowed, as long as they are safe, manageable, and do not obstruct other contestants.
Judging Criteria (suggested):
Creativity and Artistic Design – 30%
Integration of Mathematical Concepts – 30%
Craftsmanship and Detail – 20%
Stage Presence and Interpretation – 20%
Models will walk on a mini runway or stage, performing a short pose routine showcasing the details of the costume.
Participants must maintain cleanliness, ensuring no debris or dangerous materials are left on the stage or venue.
The decision of the judges is final and will be based on the official rubric provided.
Awards may include: Best Costume, Most Mathematical Design, Best Craftsmanship, and People’s Choice (if applicable).
