Workshop: How to have Tough Conversations

Tuesday April 27, 8pm - 10pm

Do you want to talk with a friend about some of their harmful behaviors? This can be a tough conversation. When you are prepared, it could be less tough, and more successful.

Our members indicated that one of their challenge is how to hold their friends accountable. We organized a first conversation to explore what the difficulties are, and a second conversation on the underlying principles of justice (punitive, restorative and transformative). The next session will be on how to start and engage with our friends in these tough conversations.

This workshop will be interactive. The facilitator will structure the conversation and bring forward suggestions, but participants will be encouraged to bring forward potential approaches. We will start with an introduction, a short explanation on what the goals are and a summary of a couple of tools. The main workshop will be a few scenarios, and a discussion on how we could approach those scenarios, with potentially some role-playing.

This workshop will take place on Zoom. Discussion can involve descriptions of harmful behaviors, including sexual assault, physical assault. The workshop will take place in English.
