The third adventure is scheduled for March 21, 5pm - 10pm.
Join us for the third adventure!
Some important logistics: the game is open to folks who signed up for previous games first. The game will be opened up for new players Thursday March 12. New players should make themselves available for creating a character with Ian.
Reserve your spot by communicating through PM with Ian. Also help us by indicating you are coming by reacting "going" to this event (unless you have objections, then don't).
The Dungeon Master is Ian K'Lark. The second adventure took place on Saturday Jan 18, 12pm - 5pm.
Due to illness and other seasonal challenges, the event on 11 Jan was cancelled. It is now moved to the 18th!

The adventure on Sat January 11, from 11AM to 4PM. was cancelled due to seasonal stuff... We still met to share space, ideas, thoughts and love. The session will be rescheduled shortly.
The DM had developed a storyline designed for some critical reflection of our biases as male-identified folks. Most conflicts were solvable without using violence, and required teamwork and critical analysis. The Dungeon Master taught us about meta-play, where we needed to take into account what our characters knew, what their motivations and biases were, and decide how they would act within the D&D world. In effect, this is a training in empathy.
D&D is a game where teamwork is essential, and hard decisions had to be made. The Dungeon Master guided our discussions to a certain degree by making sure everyone was participating, and the game took place within set parameters. Still this was an exercise in negotiation, communication, conflict resolution, listening, shared decision making and such skills. Especially for me personally, having created a character of the subclass "mastermind", this was a great exercise to learn to let go of control. It was great to share space with a range of folks with their own perspectives, styles and experiences.
At the start of our journey, we heard that the king was seeking adventurers because his bride was stolen during the wedding by a dragon. The participants gladly started the quest to save the damsel in need. Soon we started doubting the parameters of our noble quest, when we realized that the princess did not seem to be captured against her will.
When we found the princess in the dragon's nest, we decided to talk with her and ask her whether she wanted our help. We learned that she was completely fine, and that the princess and the dragon had conspired to foil the wedding. The king was angry not because he loved and missed the princess, but because he felt he was entitled to the marriage. As adventurers we were presented with the choice to support the princess and the dragon in their fight against patriarchy and gain magic loot, or to join the king and gain A LOT of gold.
We had five participants and one Dungeon Master. This was our first successful adventure, and the DM indicated that he is interested in facilitating future adventures. He will structure these adventures to allow new participants to join.
Original workshop blurb
We are excited for our upcoming MUC Dungeons and Dragons event! Table top RPGs (D&D and similar games) are fantastic tools for building empathy and taking ones self out their comfort zone in a safe way. We will play with a narrative that is sensitive to gender dynamics, and this narrative is written especially for this event by an experienced dungeon master (8 years).
The event is open for players of all levels, as our DM is accustomed to playing with new through veteran players. Bringing some snacks and drinks is encouraged (potluck style). There will be a 10lb dachshund, she is not hypoallergenic and it can take a few minutes for her to get used to strangers.
If this event is a success and if there is enough interest, the DM is willing to make this a returning event!
Please note that there is a max of six players. Reserve your spot by emailing: Jan@masculinity.info
