Does Malachi 3:1 Prove Jesus is Yahweh Himself?
***What Does Malachi 3:1 TRULY mean?
Here is Malachi 3:1 from the KJV. “Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.”
Does the phrase “PREPARE the way BEFORE ME” PROVE that John the Baptist prepared the way before Yahweh and that proves Jesus is Yahweh Himself?
In other words, does this verse of Scripture prove that the Jesus is Almighty God Himself in the flesh?

The TRUE BIBLICAL Meaning of Malachi 3:1!
Let us begin this Verse Study by reading Malachi 3:1-3 so that you can see the phrase “prepare the way before me” in CONTEXT.
Malachi 3:1-3.
“Behold, I (Speaking of Yahweh the Creator) will send My messenger, (John the Baptist, according to Luke 7:26,27) and he (John the Baptist) shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom you seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom you delight in: (Clearly, the Lord here is the messenger of the covenant, which is Jesus, according to Isaiah 42:6. Thus, Yahweh is prophesying about John the Baptist shall “prepare the way before me.” And the Lord, speaking of Jesus, whom you seek shall suddenly come to his temple.
Or, more correctly translated, And the Lord, speaking of Jesus, whom you seek shall suddenly come TO temple Me, Yahweh the Father, according to John 14:10) behold, he (Messiah, Jesus) shall come, says the LORD (Yahweh) of hosts. (Again, Yahweh is prophesying about His Messiah, Jesus, who is the TEMPLE of Yahweh, according to John 14:10, which clearly teaches us that the Father DWELT in Jesus.
Thus, the pronoun “his” should not be added. And it should read, And the Lord, whom you seek shall suddenly come TO temple Me)
Malachi 3:2. But who may abide the day of his coming? And who shall stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:
Malachi 3:3. And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.”
It is the phrase “prepare the WAY BEFORE Me” that is confusing to some Christians.
So, before we take a closer look at the meanings of the Hebrew words, let us go to the New Testament to see what John the Baptist says and does to see if he is preparing the way before Yahweh Himself.
John the Baptist is speaking to the Pharisees and the Sadducees warning them to bring forth fruit worthy of repentance.
Notice that John the Baptist POINTS the people, both his disciples and the unbelieving leaders of the Jews to Jesus, the only WAY to Yahweh, the Father, according to John 14:6.
And he, John the Baptist shall prepare the WAY before me. And the Lord whom you seek shall suddenly come TO TEMPLE Me. Even the messenger of the covenant, whom you delight in, he shall come, says Yahweh.
Matthew 3:11-15.
“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
Matthew 3:12. Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. (This is speaking of the coming of Jesus in flaming fire taking vengeance when he come to rule with a rod of iron during the wrath of God)
Matthew 3:13. Then comes Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
Matthew 3:14. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of you, and come you to me?
Matthew 3:15. And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becomes us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.”
Now let us read the account in the gospel of John.
John 1:29-37.
“The next day John sees Jesus coming unto him, and said, BEHOLD the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world. (Again, we see John preparing the WAY TO Yahweh the Father, the Lamb who would be slain on the cross to take away the sin of the world)
John 1:30. This is he of whom I said, After me comes a MAN which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
John 1:31. And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
John 1:32. And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
John 1:33. And I knew him not: but He (Yahweh, the Creator) that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizes with the Holy Ghost.
John 1:34. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
John 1:35. Again, the next day after, John stood, and two of his disciples;
John 1:36. And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he said, BEHOLD the Lamb of God!
John 1:37. And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.”
Clearly, John the Baptist POINTED to Jesus as being the WAY TO Yahweh the Father.
Now let us go back to the Old Testament and take a CLOSER look the the meanings of the Hebrew words in the phrase “PREPARE you the WAY before Me”.
Here is how the concordance in E-Sword defines the Hebrew word “translated” as PREPARE.
H6437
פָּנָה
pânâh
paw-naw'
A primitive root; to turn; by implication to face, that is, appear, look, etc.: - appear, at [even-] tide, behold, cast out, come on, X corner, dawning, empty, go away, lie, look, mark, pass away, prepare, regard, (have) respect (to), (re-) turn (aside, away, back, face, self), X right [early].
Total KJV occurrences: 134.
And here is how the concordance in E-Sword defines the Hebrew word “translated” as BEFORE Me.
H6440
פָּנִים
pânı̂ym
paw-neem'
Plural (but always used as a singular) of an unused noun (פָּנֶה pâneh, paw-neh'; from 6437); the face (as the part that turns); used in a great variety of applications (literally and figuratively); also (with prepositional prefix) as a preposition (before, etc.): - + accept, a (be-) fore (-time), against, anger, X as (long as), at, + battle, + because (of), + beseech, countenance, edge, + employ, endure, + enquire, face, favour, fear of, for, forefront (-part), form (-er time, -ward), from, front, heaviness, X him (-self), + honourable, + impudent, + in, it, look [-eth] (-s), X me, + meet, X more than, mouth, of, off, (of) old (time), X on, open, + out of, over against, the partial, person, + please, presence, prospect, was purposed, by reason, of, + regard, right forth, + serve, X shewbread, sight, state, straight, + street, X thee, X them (-selves), through (+ -out), till, time (-s) past, (un-) to (-ward), + upon, upside (+ down), with (-in, + stand), X ye, X you.
Total KJV occurrences: 2120.
Now let us use these other meanings in the phrase, “PREPARE the WAY BEFORE Me.”
Here is a more correct translation of Malachi 3:1 using these other meanings to AGREE with what John the Baptist actually fulfilled in the New Testament.
Malachi 3:1-3.
“Behold, I (Speaking of Yahweh the Creator) will send My messenger, (John the Baptist, according to Luke 7:26,27) and he (John the Baptist) shall BEHOLD the WAY TO Me: (The word “BEHOLD” means LOOK and SEE the WAY TO Me. Also, John the Baptist shall MARK the WAY TO or TOWARD Me) and the Lord, whom you seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom you delight in: (Clearly, the Lord here is the messenger of the covenant, which is Jesus, according to Isaiah 42:6. Thus, Yahweh is prophesying about John the Baptist shall “prepare the way before me.” And the Lord, speaking of Jesus, whom you seek shall suddenly come to his temple.
Or, more correctly translated, And the Lord, speaking of Jesus, whom you seek shall suddenly come TO temple Me, Yahweh the Father, according to John 14:10) behold, he (Messiah, Jesus) shall come, says the LORD (Yahweh) of hosts.”
Again, Yahweh is prophesying about His Messiah, Jesus, who is the TEMPLE of Yahweh, according to John 14:10, which clearly teaches us that the Father DWELT in Jesus.
Thus, John also PREPARED the WAY for Yahweh to DWELL in Jesus, when John BAPTIZED Jesus with the baptism of REPENTANCE.
For you see, the Holy Spirit INSTANTLY or suddenly descended upon Jesus to REMAIN upon him as soon as Jesus came up out of the water.
And the Lord, whom you seek shall suddenly come TO temple Me.
Therefore, BOTH of these meanings agree with the rest of the Scriptures.
Here are some more verses that shed LIGHT on the true sound Biblical meaning of Malachi 3:1.
And ALL of them point to Jesus as being the WAY.
Isa_35:8, Isa_40:3, Isa_62:10, and Isaiah 57:14,15, which I will quote first.
Isaiah 57:14,15.
“ And shall say, Cast you up, cast you up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people. (Or plainly show my people that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God)
Isaiah 57:15. For thus says the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.”
Isaiah 62:10-12.
“Go through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up a standard for the people.
Isa 62:11 Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
Isa 62:12 And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the LORD: and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken. ”
Isaiah 40:3-5.
“The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Isa 40:4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
Isa 40:5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.”
Isaiah 35:8.
“And an highway shall be there, and a WAY, and it shall be called The WAY of HOLINESS; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.”
The wayfaring men are the believers in Jesus who WALK the road or WAY of HOLINESS and shall NOT go out of the WAY, though they sin.
For you see, if we sin, we repent and confess our sins and God forgives us and cleanses us from all our unrighteousness, according to 1 John 1:9.
My conclusion is, Malachi 1:3 does NOT prove that Jesus is Yahweh Himself.
But rather, Malachi 1:3 proves that Yahweh DWELT in His human Son, the Son of MAN, Jesus, during the days of his FLESH.
And then, AFTER the cross and resurrection, Yahweh MADE or highly exalted His human Son to BECOME Lord to be seated on His Throne at the Father right hand to rule over the whole earth during the world to come.
Thanks for reading, and may God bless you richly as you continue to seek the TRUTH of the WHOLE word of Almighty God. And to me, the truth concerning who Jesus TRULY is, according to the Bible ITSELF, is the Biblical Unitarian view of Jesus.
Once Christians, Jews, Muslims, and even atheists understand the REASON that Yahweh CREATED the Son of MAN, Jesus, was to have DOMINION over the work of Yahweh’s hands.
And after you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels.
Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become “a” Lord, “a” King, and “a” God, under and subject to his God and Father in order to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
