Book 1 Chapter 2.
If You Do NOT Understand THIS Parable How Can You Understand ALL Parables?
In chapter 1, I shared how I have observed Christians sincerely desiring to UNDERSTAND the Bible.
I have heard Christians say things like, “I would read the Bible more if I could understand it.”
Or “I try to read the Bible, but I lose interest because I do not understand it.”
Now, I agree that when I first began to read the Bible, I read it like you would read other books. I started in Genesis and read through Exodus and Leviticus. But when I got to the book of Numbers, I lost interest.
So, I skipped to the end of the Bible and began reading the Book or Revelation. Again, when I got to chapter six, I hardly understood anything in the book of Revelation after chapter 5.
Then, I went to the middle of the Bible and read some of the shorter books like Joel, Obadiah, and Jonah. They were easier to read, but I still did not TRULY learn the “MORAL” of the story, so to speak.
And as I was flipping the pages to find another BOOK of the Bible to read, I saw the NEW Testament.
Now, I was raised in church and I never knew that the Bible was DIVIDED into the Old Testament and the New Testament.
So, I start reading in Matthew and read all the way through to 1 Corinthians 1:10-15, and I SAW or I UNDERSTOOD that the DIVISIONS in the church were NOT God’s WILL.
It was at that point in time, when I UNDERSTOOD that God is not to be blamed for the DIVISIONS in the church, that a HUNGER to learn more about God came over me.
I began reading the Bible almost every day from that point on in my life.
My point is, God opened my eyes to UNDERSTAND that I needed to let go of the HATED towards the many church denominations fighting against each other over differences in how they interpreted the Scriptures.
Let us go ahead and read that passage of Scripture, seeing that it blessed me so much.
Now, my Bible has titles between verses to “summarize” what the verses after that title are talking about. So, I will include that title so that you can see what I mean.
1 Corinthians 1:10-15.
Divisions in the Church
“Now I beseech you, (Or I am begging you) brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the SAME thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
1 Corinthians 1:11. For it has been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. (Or heated disagreement, quarreling and strife among you)
1 Corinthians 1:12. Now this I say, that every one of you say, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
Is Christ DIVIDED?
1 Corinthians 1:13. Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
1 Corinthians 1:14. I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
1 Corinthians 1:15. Lest any should say that I had baptized in my own name.”
If you have read my personal testimony, then you may remember that I left the Roman Catholic Church, in that, I stopped attending church after I graduated high school.
And one of the reasons I stopped attending the mass in the Catholic Church was that I hated the CONTENTION between my mom and the parents of my sister’s fiance. As I said before, my mom was Roman Catholic.
Now, back then at the time I was a teenager, the stand or the position that the Roman Catholic Church took was, THEY were the ONLY TRUE church.
And my sister’s fiance and his parents were Protestants in the Assemblies of God Church.
Thus, each SIDE demanded that they were NOT to be married in that “OTHER” church, as if the Christians in that other church were not saved.
In other words, the Catholics considered the Protestants to be heretics. And the Protestants considered the Roman Catholic Church to be the “apostate” church prophesied in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 and 1 Timothy 4:1-3.
With that being said, knowing and understanding that verses if Scripture in the Bible can be “interpreted differently” is ANOTHER TOOL that will help you understand that you need to be like the Berean Christians in Acts 17:10-12.
For you see, they searched the word of God DAILY in order to SEE if what they were being taught was the TRUTH.
I will add this as tool number 28.
TOOL #28.
ALL of what you are taught in your church denomination may NOT be sound Biblical teaching.
Therefore, you need the read and STUDY the Bible for YOURSELF to know which interpretation of the Scriptures in the CORRECT sound Biblical God INTENDED meaning.
Now, I have only read the Bible from cover to cover three times over the forty plus years that I have been a Christian.
But yet, I have read parts of the Bible hundreds of times. And I have read the Bible pretty much every day, at least a verse or two. I would read the Bible on my lunch break at work and nearly every evening when I got home from work.
My point is, I never lost interest in learning about God and His Son.
Here are some of the reasons why I never lost interest in reading and studying the Bible.
I was saved in the Assemblies of God Church denomination and they taught a lot on the second coming of Jesus, divine healing, and the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
And I never heard about any of these things growing up in the Roman Catholic Church.
So then, what I have learned that keeps my interest in reading the Bible is to STUDY the Bible by SUBJECTS, as opposed to simply READING the Bible like an ordinary book.
This is tool number 29.
TOOL #29.
Rather than simply reading the Bible as you would read an ordinary book, read and STUDY the Bible by SUBJECTS!
For you see, studying the Bible by SUBJECTS is like LOOKING for a hidden treasure when you “study” the Bible desiring in your heart to UNDERSTAND an answer to your question.
It was DURING those three times that I read the Bible cover to cover. I read the Bible anywhere from 8 to 12 hours a day, and I wanted to know the CORRECT answer concerning WHICH church doctrine was teaching the truth.
So, one of the things that keeps me interested in the Bible is I have a HUNGER to KNOW the answer to a question! And I have had LOTS of questions about church doctrines throughout my life as a Christian.
In other words, at different times in my life, I would read a verse of Scripture that did not FIT what the pastor was teaching.
And that contradiction or difference between what the church was teaching and my “understanding” of the Scriptures caused me to HUNGER for the TRUTH.
Was my understanding of the Scripture correct? Or was the church teaching correctly?
So then, looking back at those times of “hungering” to know the TRUTH, I can now see that the reason that I did NOT lose interest is because I was SEARCHING for something SPECIFIC in the Bible.
This is tool number 30.
TOOL #30.
SEARCHING for a SPECIFIC answer help you keep INTEREST in reading and studying the Bible.
God promises in Luke 11:8-13, if we SEEK, we will FIND.
Now, there was no Internet back then, so you had to read the Bible for yourself to find the answers in the Bible.
The concordance in the back of the Bible helped finding things faster. So, I bought an “exhaustive” concordance that had every word in the King James Version of the Bible.
In other words, you can look up a word like “faith” or “parable” and find every verse in the Bible that has the words “faith” or “parable in it.
Thus, you are reading AND STUDYING the Bible at the same time.
And what I learned in doing those “word” searches in the Bible is, I came across the PARABLE of the Sower sowing seed.
Jesus told a series of parables, one parable right after another parable. And his disciples asked Jesus what they meant.
Here is what Jesus told them.
Mark 4:13.
“And he said unto them, Know you not THIS parable? And how then will you know all parables?”
So then, if you TRULY want to KNOW what all of the parables mean, you have to FIRST know what THIS parable means.
Now, to me, that is a TREASURE. What a find! Know and understand this ONE parable and then you can understand ALL parables.
And then, Jesus TELLS them exactly what the parable means. So, you did not even have to try to figure out what this parable means.
Isn't that SIMPLICITY? It was to me! So much so that my Bible lesson was teaching the church what I learned about the parable of the sower.
I was a brand new Christian at that time. That pastor encouraged all new Christians to teach what they have learned thus far after becoming a Christian.
And I learned that I wanted to be GOOD ground so God’s word could grow in me and bear much fruit.
Now, what Jesus explains about this ONE parable is only PART of HOW to know and UNDERSTAND all parables
But we have to start somewhere, and I perceive that this parable is where God is leading me to start this NEW Book 1- The Bible Made SIMPLE to UNDERSTAND!
So, as we read the MEANING of this parable, I want you to notice that Jesus is telling us the PURPOSE of LIFE, so to speak. The PURPOSE for why God created us in the first place. I will explain what I mean by this as we go along.
Mark 4:13-20.
“And he said unto them, Know you not THIS parable? And how then will you know all parables?
Mark 4:14. The sower sows the word. (In other words, the word of God is SEED that is sown by us as Christians, teaching, preaching, and sharing God’s word.
And the PLACES where the seed FELL on the ground are PEOPLE who HEAR the word of God that we teach, preach to, and share with others.
Those people can be Christians, people who say they are Christians, and people who are NOT Christians)
Mark 4:15. And these are they by the wayside, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan comes immediately, and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. (In other words, sometimes when we share the word of God with Christians, and the unsaved, they HEAR the word, but then they hear THOUGHTS in their mind.
And those thoughts come from Satan to STEAL the word of God so that they will NOT believe what you shared with them.
Again, those we share God’s word with are fellow Christians, people who are not truly born-again Chrsitians even though they were raised in church, people who do not believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, as in, people in other “religions” of the world, and people who are atheists)
Mark 4:16. And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; (In other words, people who are polite and take the time to LISTEN to what you have to say)
Mark 4:17. And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: (They hear the word of God and TRY it for a while to see if it works) afterward, when affliction or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended. (In other words, some Christians RECEIVE the word and BELIEVE the truth until persecution comes to STEAL your joy, which can cause some to sin, become bitter, and even fall away from the faith.
And persecution can come from your own family, your closest friends, and even fellow Christians.
And sometimes, the persecution will indeed be from Christians who disagree with your UNDERSTANDING of the word of God that you share with them)
Mark 4:18. And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,
Mark 4:19. And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. (In other words, Christians LEFT their FIRST love, according to Revelation 2:4,5. And in that verse, Jesus says to REMEMBER where you FELL and REPENT and do the first WORKS.
To say this another way, some Christians want to do the will of God, but sin WEIGHS them down, according to Hebrews 12:1,2. And thus, they LEFT off doing the desires of their NEW heart God created in them when they first believed the gospel to be born-again)
Mark 4:20. And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, AND bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.”
So then, the GOAL is for not only us, we who sow the word, to be GOOD ground, but also the GOAL is for the people who HEAR the word need to be GOOD ground as well.
This is tool number 31.
TOOL #31.
PRAYER. Pray and ask God to help you be GOOD ground.
Also, pray and ask God to lead you to GOOD ground to sow the SEED of His word of TRUTH.
Now, before we get into HOW to be good ground ourselves and how to get others to be good ground as well, let me summarize what we have covered thus far.
The three types of not so good ground are as follows.
#1. The wayside.
The wayside is the ROAD, the packed down HARD soil. And the wayside is also alongside the road.
These are people that have already FORMED a FIRM belief in what they believe.
They are also people who OVERHEAR the word of God as we are sharing God’s word with someone else.
Now, I used to think that the “wayside” only represented hard core atheists and people who already have a “religion”.
But I now see that even true born-again Christians can harden their hearts to the word of God as well.
What I mean by this is that a “spirit” of religion crept into the church.
And the Christians in the “mainstream” church denomination believe church TRADITION over what the word of God actually teaches us in SIMPLICITY.
For example, when a Protestant shares the word of God with a Roman Catholic Christian that does not AGREE with what Catholicism believes and teaches, then some Catholics harden their heart to RECEIVING the truth of God’s word into their heart.
Now, the next thing we see about the “wayside” is that when we compare Scripture with Scripture, we see in Matthew 13:19, that people hear the word of God about the kingdom, but they do not UNDERSTAND what the Bible MEANS.
And thus, the seed of God’s word is not actually PLANTED until the sower of the word gets a person or a group of people to UNDERSTAND what the Bible is all about.
What I mean by this, is that both Christians and non-Christians have formed a preconceived VIEW of God in their minds.
And when they hear the word of God, they “INTERPRET” the word of God based upon their VIEW or preconceived UNDERSTANDING of God.
Thus, if their VIEW of God is WRONG, then their understanding of what the Bible actually teaches will ALSO be wrong as well.
Therefore, our GOAL is to get the “Wayside” people’s VIEW of God to become the CORRECT sound Biblical understanding of God, according to the Bible ITSELF.
#2. The STONEY ground.
Since this book is geared more toward people who WANT to UNDERSTAND the Bible, and I know that MOST Christians truly desire to understand the Bible more, then I will use Christians as the examples of the types of SOIL.
But please understand that the types of soil represent people, BOTH saved and unsaved people, including people who think they are saved, but they are not saved.
Now, those who know anything at all about a garden, you know that for the soil to be good soil, you need to get rid of the rocks. You need to remove the stones from the “Stoney Ground”.
For you see, rocks HINDER the growth of the plant.
So then, what “hinders” Christians from growing in faith and true understanding of God’s word?
Again, the answer to what HINDERS Christians from UNDERSTANDING the Bible is their WRONG understanding of God. They have a WRONG preconceived VIEW of God and His Son Jesus.
And thus, the rocks represent FALSE teaching that does not AGREE with what the Bible actually teaches in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.
After we cover all four types of soil, I will come back and explain HOW to PREPARE the soil of the “Stoney Ground” to become GOOD soil.
#3. Soil with weeds and thorns.
These are Christians who go out among the world, rather than fellowshipping with Christians.
What I mean by this is that these Christians are MORE in the world than they are caring about growing in the Lord.
They are lukewarm Christians described in Revelation 3:16-18.
They are carnal Christians described in Romans 8:6-8 and 1 Corinthians 3:3,4.
And before they realize it, they become more and more carnal Christians who are no longer led by the Holy Spirit.
Again, getting rid of the thorns is understanding the word of God correctly. And in order to understand the Bible correctly, one must have the CORRECT VIEW of God and His Son, Jesus.
Now, the GOAL with “Thorny Soil” is to get rid of the THORNS.
I will explain what I mean by this after we look at the fourth type of soil.
#4. The GOOD soil.
These are Christians who are truly born-again Christians.
They have a hunger to learn all that they can about God.
They want everyone around them to know God and His Son Jesus in the way they have come to know what it means to truly be saved.
And the GOAL of the “Good Soil” is to KEEP the soil good.
The thorny soil are people and false teaching. Thus, Christians who believe and teach doctrines that are NOT sound Biblical teachings can CHOKE the word of truth.
Also, the ungodly lifestyle of people, both saved and unsaved can wrongly influence your growth to be more like Jesus.
This is tool number 32.
TOOL #32.
This tool will help in WITNESSING to others. Understanding that Satan will try to steal, hinder, and choke the truth being shared with others will help you to NOT give up witnessing to others.
Now that you know the “BASIC” meaning of this parable in Matthew 13:1-23, Mark 4:1-20, and Luke 8:4-15, let us read WHY Jesus spoke in parables.
For you see, the disciples of Jesus asked TWO questions, “What does this parable mean?” And “WHY do you speak in parables?”
Let us again COMPARE Scripture with Scripture and read the CONTEXT of Mark 4:13 from the three gospels, Mark, Luke, and Matthew.
Mark 4:10-13.
“And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable. (Here were see Jesus alone with ONLY his disciples)
Mark 4:11. And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to KNOW the MYSTERY of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
Mark 4:12. That seeing they may see, and NOT perceive; and hearing they may hear, and NOT understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
Mark 4:13. And he said unto them, Know you not this parable? And HOW then will you know ALL parables?”
Here we see two groups, those who RECEIVE Jesus and follow him and those who REJECT Jesus and do not follow him.
Notice that Jesus said, those who are WITHOUT. In other words, they are not on the inside, as in a believer in Jesus as being the Christ, the Son of God.
Jesus is the DOOR of the sheepfold and they are not of the sheepfold of Jesus. As we compare Scripture with Scripture, you will see WHY they are without.
This is tool number 33.
TOOL #33.
COMPARING Scripture with Scripture. Compare the accounts of the four gospels with each other.
Do word searches of key words in a Scripture to find other verses teaching that same subject so that you can find a deeper understanding.
Again, once we UNDERSTAND THIS parable, then we are able or made able to UNDERSTAND ALL parables.
Luke 8:9.10.
“And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?
Luke 8:10. And he said, Unto you it is given to KNOW the MYSTERIES of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might NOT see, and hearing they might NOT understand.”
We see again the same two groups, those who believe God’s word and follow Jesus, and those who do not believe reject Jesus.
Now, according to 1 Corinthians 2:10-14 only we who are Christians have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us.
And the Holy Spirit reveals the DEEP things of God to us so that we can UNDERSTAND the HIDDEN things in God’s word that were kept SECRET from God’s ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels.
But the natural man, the unsaved, do NOT UNDERSTAND the MYSTERIES.
This is tool number 34.
TOOL #34.
Only TRUE born-again Christians who have the Holy Spirit dwelling in them can understand the DEEP things of God.
Thus, if you were simply raised in a church like I was, then you MIGHT not be truly born-again to have the Holy Spirit dwelling n you.
Please read the studies in the subject heading, What Must I Do to be SAVED?
Obviously, they can indeed UNDERSTAND the SIMPLICITY of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, when they DESIRE to know the truth.
So, the GOAL here is to be the SALT of the earth and the LIGHT of the world. Salt makes people THIRSTY. And thirsty people will not REJECT a drink of water.
In Isaiah 44:3, God promises to pour out water upon him who is thirsty and they will be like willow trees planted by the waters.
Matthew 13:10-17.
“And the disciples came, and said unto him, WHY speak you unto them in parables?
Matthew 13:11. He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the MYSTERIES of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is NOT given. (The LITERAL translation reads, to those it has not YET been given. And this translation agrees with Isaiah 11:11, the prophecy of God turning a SECOND time to deliver the REMNANT of His people at the coming of Jesus.
In other words, the remnant of Jews will be visited a second time at the coming of Jesus. The Jews will be taught about the correct VIEW of God and his Son during the world to come)
Matthew 13:12. FOR (Or BECAUSE) whosoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever has not, from him shall be taken away even that he has. (After the Jews as a nation reject Jesus as the Messiah, God turned to the Gentiles UNTIL the fullness of the Gentiles is completed.
So, blindness in PART has been prophesied for Israel until the latter rain of the Holy Spirit)
Matthew 13:13. Therefore, speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see NOT; and hearing they hear NOT, neither do they UNDERSTAND.
Matthew 13:14. And in them is FULFILLED the prophecy of Esaias, which said, By hearing you shall hear, and shall NOT understand; and seeing you shall see, and shall NOT perceive:
Matthew 13:15. FOR (Or BECAUSE) this people's HEART is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes THEY have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and SHOULD understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
Matthew 13:16. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
Matthew 13:17. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have DESIRED to see those things which you see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which you hear, and have not heard them.”
Simply knowing how to correctly understand the verses in the Bible is just one TOOL in the TASK of getting other Christians to ACCEPT the correct God intended understanding.
You NEED to have the DESIRE deep in your heart to UNDERSTAND the word of God. The intent of your heart must be PURE and humble.
Also, you cannot CLOSE your eyes to what the Holy Spirit is revealing.
Rather, Paul teaches us in Ephesians 1:17-23 to pray that our eyes of understanding be OPENED.
Once your eyes are opened to see the WISDOM of God behind the HIDING His Messiah in the Scripture and giving us a LITTLE here and a LITTLE there, then understanding the Bible will be made SIMPLE to you.
This is tool number 35.
TOOL #35.
Understanding that God HIDES a little bit of PROPHECY about Jesus HERE and a little bit THERE, according to Isaiah 28:9-13.
And, for those of you who have experienced the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the EVIDENCE of speaking in other tongues, pay close attention to this passage of Scripture.

But for now, let us begin by learning HOW Jesus teaches us God’s word?
He taught in PARABLES to the people!
The parable describes the kingdom of heaven, saying things such as, the kingdom of heaven is LIKE a grain of mustard seed.
And in every parable there is the “MORAL” of the story, so to speak, that Jesus is teaching.
So, here is a parable that is my own to show you what I mean.
Understanding the Bible is LIKE harvesting fruit to eat from a garden.
The lesson is, we eat food to grow strong physically.
We also need food to grow spiritually. The garden of spiritual food is the Bible.
Natural food that is corrupted is not good for our bodies.
And spiritual food that is corrupted by false teaching gives Christians a wrong understanding of God and His Son. Jesus.
So, how do we help other Christians understand the correct God intended meaning of a verse of Scripture?
We need to make sure the soil is GOOD soil.
Therefore, when sharing God’s word, pay attention to the soil.
Are the people or is the person RESPONDING to the word of God? HOW do they RECEIVE the word of God?
Are they listening, or are they daydreaming about something else? What is their body language telling you?
Ask them if they understand. Are they resisting the truth?
These are just some of the things that I will explain in this book and also in other books I have written.
In the next chapter, chapter 3, we will take a closer look at some of the other parables of Jesus.
Some Christians will be amazed at just how MUCH Jesus teaches us in parables that we simply read right over and do not think it is important in UNDERSTANDING the WHOLE Bible. Learn what the BIG PICTURE is first, and the keep that VIEW in mind as you read and study the Bible.

VERSES used to TEACH that Jesus PRE-EXISTED! <<< These two headings have ALL of the studies that I have on who Jesus truly is according to what the Bible itself teaches us in simplicity.
