Lignumbra

Verditius Necromancer

Lignumbra of Verditius was born as a poor woodworker and was taken in by a Verditius. During his apprenticeship, a demonic cult attacked his Master's laboratory, and in the chaos the young Lignumbra had his gift significantly affected, leaving him vulnerable to Infernal presence and weakened in the light of the sun.

Lignumbra is a surprisingly large man, with curly brown hair and round features.  Growing up poor, and now being a magus with wealth, he has fallen into a great fascination for good food and that has left its mark on his waistline. Despite this, his pudgy fingers are very dexterous, and his mind is sharp when focused. His interest in creating items for broad sale is always warring with his desire to study deeper into the necromantic arts his Gift is specialized in.

Lignumbra's best friend is a large, fat spider that has a unique ability to catch spirits in its webs. Though Lignumbra knows the spirits could be used for magical research, he's much more interested in the spider's apparent ability to catch imps and minor demons in its webs.

As a youth growing up in the city, life was difficult - especially when nobody liked you, as a motherless son. Marcus grew up poor, his mother dead from childbirth, he regularly found himself getting into fights for scraps, until his father's luck turned. His father married a second wife, who made Marcus's life even more miserable. His father began to teach him, though, to keep his son out of trouble and away from the streets. Even learning such a useful trade, his father couldn't protect Marcus from the dislike of the older apprentices in the guild. Everything changed again, when the bitter, spiteful, and much disliked maestro who visited the guild spoke to him.

The visiting maestro was a Verditius magus, and took him under his wing.  Training under the Verditius took away all the problems he had once had, and Marcus found joy in glutting himself on all that had once been denied him. The wood-crafter Verditius was disappointed when Marcus was not able to pick up the same mastery as he did. Despite his sour attitude, Marcus's master was not one to abandon his new apprentice, and continued to teach him. Halfway through his apprenticeship, however, some of the elder Verditius's vendettas caught up with him, which involved an Infernal cult and a disease demon, which perhaps damaged Marcus's Gift, and definitely changed it.  Marcus's talent for necromancy blossomed after this, as well as a rather sharp tendency towards dark and shadowy things.  His master, though certainly wounded in the assault, decided to direct Marcus's training towards his evident focus.
