Prior to the Fracture, the animals available in LLR lived animal lives with hunting, fighting, territory patrolling, and other special activities depending on their factions. These animal societies were complex but limited. Herbal medicine was available, construction rarely exceeded burrows and huts, and the magitech of man was far beyond comprehension. After the world ended, those who survived found themselves changed by the magical fallout. Their bodies adapted to the harsh environment, granting greater flexibility of form and heightened intelligence.
Those born in the new world inherit these adaptations, only learning of the nature of the old-world if taught by their predecessors.
Each species additionally enjoys a longer potential lifespan. The exact length of which is not yet known, but the majority of those who survived the Fracture have found themselves aging far slower than expected. This is particularly noticeable in short lived species, where they fly past their grey muzzle days feeling as young as the day the Fracture struck.
Each species comes with a unique set of stat bonuses, size ranges, skills, and in character details that may impact their gameplay. It is recommended to select a species based off the lore you like, since you'll probably be roleplaying an awful lot! Undesirable starting stats and debuffs can be made up through normal gameplay by training skills and using items.
All species had old world factions, with the exception of coyotes, which were primarily loners. Their species pages provide more detail on these factions, alongside other details.
Each species' natural language is a result of their lifestyle and diet. Carnivores and Herbivores speak Carnidae and Herbived, respectively. Omnivores naturally mix the two languages into one of their own, borrowing words from both. Omnivores can speak in pure Herbived or Carnidae when pressed to, but are typically only fluent in one.
Through hard work, a character may be able to become fluent in another language, but for most, use of a translator or magic is advisable. This ability to speak existed prior to the Fracture, but was rarely used as different species rarely had reason to speak to one another. Prey in particular had little reason to listen to a predator's words.

Powerful even before the Fracture, these were some of the few animals that stood a chance against a Coyote. Under the careful hand of humanity, they became many varied and highly successful.
