Joining has ended now, thank you!
Long days stretch into long nights.
The Scarlands carry on their relentless crusade against life.
Those who survive here are always in search of shelter. Basic needs guide every choice made, and lately, those who listen have heard of a new opportunity in the wasteland. Talk of a faction gaining power in the northeast. Soon, they may claim the entire northern territory as their own. For those struggling to survive alone...strength in numbers sounds all too enticing.
Roaming the sands for so long...it might be nice to be part of a band again. To burrow together in a new warren. To call a new leyline your own.
Determined not to die alone, you head north, considering the great boon you will ask of them each step of the way.
Long Lost Roads is for the first time open to the public! No referral is needed to get in, and there is no upper limit to new players. Prospective members can reach out to the admins for a discord invite:

How to Join
First, get into the discord. This is the most important part, as critical updates to joining may appear in the discord before they appear on the website. Once you're in, take a look around, settle in, and prepare yourself for the most exciting page of the website — Character Creation!
This joining takes place 3 years and 2 months after the Fracture, most survivors have gotten used to the new unforgiving world by now. Although survival is still far from easy, you have managed to persevere.
Characters can come from almost any origin, and can be any age that is self sufficient.
During this opening there will be two main types of backgrounds your character can have: a known Hollow Hill Survivor who was not present at the time of its destruction, or a stranger with a custom background.
There are many possible reasons why your character may not have been at the Hollow Hill during Chapter 1. The small structure could only house a few animals at a time. Many took one look at it and chose to take their chances elsewhere. Of those who frequented the Hollow Hill, they may have been out hunting, tending to other responsibilities, or in peril elsewhere, preventing them from returning home for some time.
Custom Backgrounds can really be just about anything. Perhaps they are simply individuals or a small group of survivors that stumbled across signs of others and discovered the Tower and it's inhabitants or maybe they were former members of some other faction that fell or they got separated from. If you're unsure about what works or want help with your story, you're welcome to reach out to us on discord and we'll be happy to work with you!
All characters in this opening will start as Standard profession and will get a chance to explore the different professions at the same time as the current cast before settling for one.

Free Starting Item:
All characters in this joining may start with 1 free item/accessory. This item will start with 1d3 fragility, and must be mundane (non-magical). Fragility is health meter that exists for damaged, corroded, or poorly made items. Once you hit 0 fragility, the item will be damaged beyond repair. Each item will provide a little bonus to help you survive, but be careful! Every time you use it, you risk damaging it.
Coyote outfits count as 1 item, no matter how many pieces there are in the assembly. Clothing can be damaged during combat and travel, not during normal wear and everyday activities.
In the story, these items are something your character has come across in their travels or held onto for a long time.
Age Guidance: We are still developing the lore on this! But for now, here is a rough idea of how aging works in this setting.
Pre-Fracture, animals aged at greatly varying rates. Some would take several years to mature, while some may have grown up in a matter of months. Most animals lived shorter lives than those of mankind, typically dying before their 20th year. Rats lived notably longer lifespans in this world, capable of making it to 10-20 years old.
Post-Fracture, all animals appear to mature at roughly the same rate.
Year 1: Childhood.
They are notably smaller, and often lack the Post-Fracture accents their species has evolved(horns, tusks, manes)
Year 2-3: Adolescence.
Typically, a character reaches their full height by this point. Tusks, horns, and other post-fracture evolutions begin to grow in, often making for awkward inbetween-stages until they're done.
Year 3-4: Adulthood.
Characters who reach this point are fully grown.
Nobody is sure how long they will live with all of these new mutations. Individuals who were already old or greying by the time the Fracture hit have found themselves feeling healthier and more youthful than before, but have retained their older appearance. Overall, it seems like one could hope to live longer these days. That is...if they can dodge the storms, monsters, and barren wastes of the lands
For this joining, characters can be any age that is self sufficient. No kittens, no hoglets! You need to be able to walk on your own and eat normal food for this joining.
After having recently lost their previous home, the Hollow Hill, a mismatched group of survivors have settled down in an old man-structure.
