Spring 2023 Beta Test
Welcome!

You have chosen, or been chosen, to participate in the LLR Beta Test. Here's a list of topics we want you, the player, to help test.

Characters created during beta testing are primarily for testing mechanics, and do not need detailed personalities, histories, appearances, flux designs, etc. It's all about selecting their stat bonuses and testing them out. Beta test characters are very likely to die, so don't use anyone you're too attached to! Beta test characters can be abandoned and replaced at any time. We intend to make it easy to reroll a character.

Beta test characters have some special freedoms for creation:

They may have 1 to 50 flux
They may have 1 to 15 powers unlocked, not including the natural branch

Upon official release, you will unlock your primary character. The flux, powers, and inventory of beta test characters are NOT transferable to primary characters. Your primary character will still benefit from your contribution to the beta test, with rewards detailed below.

Beta Testing Goals

(PvE) Combat against warped below, at, and above your threat level
(PvP) Combat against other players
Character creation of varying types (profession, species, build, height, etc). These characters do not need personalities or histories.
Add depth to the world lore
Regional Exploration/Questing Mechanics
Power and skill usage

Beta Testing Rewards

Bonus to starting flux
Various items
+1 Unique Artifact

Karma, items, and flux rewards will vary based on what you did during beta testing. All beta testers who contributed to at least two prompts will received a special artifact for their primary character.

The features are currently limited to keep beta testing focused, and may be available at the official launch of the game.

What's Next?
Once beta testing is complete, the mods will retreat into the mod hole to work on rebalancing and final touch-ups for the official release. In the meantime, you'll be able to prepare your primary character's application.

At the end of beta testing, the characters created have a few options:
Option 1: The player can select one of their beta test characters to become their primary character.

Note that beta test characters will be subject to stat changes and ability retcons, particularly if they exceed the starting Flux levels allowed in the official release.

Option 2: The beta character canonically dies. Signs of their beta testing encounters may be found in the world.
Option 3: The beta test character is fully eliminated from the world, and their time in it was not canon.

For the official opening, character applications will be available to anyone the admin team invites. There will be some back and forth to get the character's lore settled in just right, and then the game will begin! Friend invites will open when the admin team is ready for them.

Beta Character Creation

Beta test characters use a simplified character creation template that mostly covers their stats and magic abilities. You can add more detail if you'd like, but remember these characters are meant to be disposable! Don't get too attached.

Roleplay Notes: Beta test characters exist in an ambiguous 3 year time period between the Fracture the start of the game. Because of this, their knowledge of the world around them is limited, and there is much left to learn and discover. Many are likely still struggling with their grief, given the lack of end-times-therapists. Locations and enemies will be unfamiliar to them. Remnants of the world they once knew are all that remain.

If a beta test character dies, you can either continue to use them or create a new beta test character. Up to you. In lore, reviving a beta test character means they did not really die(may be experienced as a nightmare or near death experience).

Beta test characters can be abandoned at any time during beta testing.

Beta Test Prompts

These prompts are available to all who participate in the beta test. They will be used to build the lore of the world, and may be worked into the website where they can be. This will be the best opportunity to contribute to the 'old world' lore. This ability may be more limited in the future as creatures take on names and characters fill in a set of familiar stories.

Prompt 1: Survivors

Your beta character meets a survivor in the wastes. Now is your chance to establish wasteland etiquette! Do you greet them? Do you trail them to make sure they aren't a threat? Do you take their possessions for your own, hoping to gain an edge? You may fall back on tricks used before the Fracture, or perhaps a new take on greetings is required to survive the wastes.

You can meet a nameless character or another beta test character. If your character would attack a beta test character, PvP rules apply. The encounters had in this prompt can be used for future character creation with the author's permission.

Other Info

Only a one area is available for beta testing: The Scarlands

This area is mostly free of the monstrous creatures that prowl the rest of the continent: Apocalyptic weather events keep them at bay. Your character may have struggled through a nearby region to get here, but they didn't have the opportunity to explore those areas much. It is readily apparent to all beta test characters that this region is the safest one for them right now.

The Scarlands are bordered by
North: The Roaring Peaks - A volcanically active mountain chain
South: A Flux Storm, The Ocean on a good day
East: The Shattered Belts - Impassable ravines with soil that burns the paws
West: The Roaring Peaks - A volcanically active mountain chain

Earned by providing feedback during the Beta Test period. If you gave feedback on the website, asked lore and mechanic related questions in discord, tested the character tracker spreadsheets, participated in a combat test, or made a beta test character, you have access to the beta reward. Just link to your beta contribution in the submissions channel, and we'll see that wish granted!

The beta tester's wish must be made in character, and must be made using a single word. What do they wish for? This wish represents something your character deeply desires, and is something they will pursue in the roleplay. They will be gifted something related to their wish when they enter the group.

Wishes will be granted in character via admin writeup.
