Heritage Cycle
The Heritage Cycle diagram gives us an idea how we can make the past part of our future (Simon Thurley, 2005). In a clockwise direction the wedges and arrows read:
· By understanding (cultural heritage)
o people value it
· By valuing it
o people want to care for it
· By caring for it
o it will help people enjoy it
· From enjoying it
o comes a thirst to understand
· By understanding
What do you know about Torre del Greco?
What do you think the city is famous for?
It is not uncommon to associate the processing of coral and cameos with Torre Del Greco.
Thanks to the skill of the master engravers and the charm of the creations, the fame of the city, has conquered the whole world.
CORAL PROCESSING IN TORRE DEL GRECO STARTED IN 1805, WHEN PAOLO BARTOLOMEO MARTIN, FROM MARSEILLE, SET UP HIS SHOP IN THE CITY. WITH HIS WORKSHOP WE CAN SAY THAT HE STARTED THE FIRST CORAL AND CAMEO FACTORY IN THE CITY. PEOPLE ARE SOMETIMES CALLED CORALLINI BECAUSE OF THE ONCE PLENTIFUL CORAL IN THE NEARBY SEA, AND BECAUSE THE CITY HAS BEEN A MAJOR PRODUCER OF CORAL JEWELLERY AND CAMEO BROOCHES SINCE THE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY.
The cult of the Immaculate Conception dates back to the 5th century for the Torresi. Following the eruption of Vesuvius in 1794, the Church of S. Croce was rebuilt and the Blessed Vincenzo Romano wanted the Immaculate Conception to remain in its original location dating back to 500.
At the end of December the inhabitants returned to the city and began the reconstruction. They refused the aid sent to them by the former king of Naples Francesco II di Borbone and were rewarded by Italy with a large grant. And in memory of the national generosity raised the city of Torre del Greco a simple and modest monument of stone that can be observed at Capo Torre.
The chariot left the church at 11.00 when, the year before, the first earthquake was felt, and returned at 2.00 in the afternoon, when the earth opened up to vomit lava of fire and bitumen. In that year a monument was built in Capotorre in memory of the eruption.

ETWINNING SCHOOL!
