The role of the Associate Vice-President Engagement (Subcommittees) is to assist the VP Engagement in guiding the Subcommittees in their development and operation.
Duties of this role are as follows:
Assist the VP Engagement in hiring, communicating, delegating, and overviewing the tasks of portfolio members and providing support wherever needed
Work closely with the LFS|US Equity, Diversity & Inclusion and Sustainability Subcommittee Coordinators
Assist with the hiring and onboarding of subcommittee members
Host bi-weekly meetings for the Subcommittee Coordinators of each Subcommittee with the supervision of the VP Engagement
Liaise with LFS-affiliated groups, clubs, and other executives to obtain resources and sponsorships for subcommittee initiatives and events
Serve as a non-voting Councillor, attend weekly general council meetings, and other necessary meetings on behalf of the Subcommittees
Wednesday Night Dinner Manager (1)

The role of the Wednesday Night Dinner Manager is to organize Wednesday Night Dinners. As the Wednesday Night Dinner Manager, you'll be organizing and collaborating with a large team, so having great leadership skills is a strong asset, alongside a love to cook! This role works closely with the VP Engagement and often collaborates with other organizations, such as health- and food-related clubs in UBC.
*NOTE: Due to the current projections of COVID-19, Wednesday Night Dinners are likely to fully return to being in-person in the fall, with the appropriate safety guidelines in place. However, flexibility to adjust Wednesday Night Dinners to an online mode may be necessary depending on the university's policies, and the state of the pandemic.
Duties of this role are as follows:
Plan menus/recipes with Wednesday Night Dinner Shift Leaders and obtain menu approval from the VP Engagement
Coordinate Wednesday Night Dinner Shift Leaders by setting up main duties and deadlines of each Shift Leader at the beginning of each term and helping them with any concerns/questions
Maintain close relations with the Wednesday Night Dinner Assistant Manager to organize volunteers for monthly dinners
Contact grocery suppliers and write a contract for grocery supply for the second term
Relay the finalized menus to Shift Leaders for dinner preparation
Book space for each Wednesday Night Dinner
Ensure Agora Space is tidy and maintain a positive relationship with Agora Cafe
Attend weekly general council meetings and Wednesday Night Dinner Committee meetings
Requirements:

Available Tuesday afternoons for Wednesday Night Dinner preparations

Wednesday Night Dinner Shift Leader (4)

The role of a Wednesday Night Dinner Shift Leader is to organize, and direct Wednesday Night Volunteers for Wednesday Night Dinner preparations, to help serve food during the event, and to direct volunteers for dish washing and clean-up after the dinners. If you have a strong interest in cooking, and are eager to strengthen your organizational, and team leadership skills, then the Shift Leader position would be a great fit for you! This position works closely with the Wednesday Night Dinner Manager, Wednesday Night Dinner Assistant Manager, other Shift Leaders, and Wednesday Night Dinner volunteers.
Duties of this role are as follows:
Assist Wednesday Night Dinner Manager with recipe selection, themes, and activities as needed at biweekly Wednesday Night Dinner Committee meetings
Collaborate with Wednesday Night Dinner Manager to review volunteer shifts that cover all food preparation, dinner set-up, and clean-up
Communicate with other Shift Leaders to decide who will take which shift
Review the recipes ahead of an assigned shift, and be prepared to demonstrate, and delegate out specific tasks to Wednesday Night Dinner volunteers
Attend bi-weekly general council meetings and bi-weekly Wednesday Night Dinner Committee meetings
Requirements:

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Coordinator (2)

The role of the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Coordinators is to lead the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Subcommittee together. If you like working with a large team, have great leadership skills, and are passionate about EDI initiatives, this position is right for you! This role works closely with the VP Engagement and may involve collaborations with other organizations, such as the UBC Equity Office.
No experience needed but to have a strong passion for EDI-related issues, and to facilitate discussions within the Subcommittee.
Duties of this role are as follows:
Lead the direction and operations of the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Subcommittee
Chair the EDI Subcommittee meetings
Provide the EDI Subcommittee members with timely resources, and ensure that they are heard and supported
Lead and provide support in the production and accomplishment of Subcommittee goals and/or deliverables
Collaborate with core subcommittee members to produce an EDI resource guide for informing LFS|US events and purchases
Facilitate a workshop/discussion regarding key EDI concepts for LFS|US councillors during a general LFS|US meeting
For LFS|US events, advise councillors on EDI factors as needed
Attend the LFS EDI Working Group and share updates of the Subcommittee
Highlight and share EDI-related matters and issues with the General Council and LFS as a whole
Serve as a non-voting Councillor and attend bi-weekly general council meetings

Join the EDI subcommittee as a general member to explore EDI topics such as accessibility, inclusivity, and advocacy in a welcoming community based experience! Through discussions, and team projects you’ll be able to contribute towards progressing LFS and UBC EDI goals, as well as examining how to advocate for BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and further causes on both a local and global scale.
Some past projects the EDI subcommittee has worked on in the subcommittee include: online conversations on food sovereignty, zoom office hours for varying EDI topics, and the LFS|US EDI Resource Guide. The subcommittee is chaired by the EDI Coordinators, and overseen by the AVP and VP Engagement. General subcommittee membership is flexible, with biweekly attendance highly encouraged, but not mandatory. Although, if greater involvement is desired, general members can request to become a core member under the approval of the EDI coordinators.

The role of a Sustainability Subcommittee Core Member is to assist the Sustainability Coordinators in fostering a strong sense of community within the subcommittee, as well as serving as team leaders to help implement and progress the logistics of subcommittee initiatives. If you are passionate about sustainability initiatives, and are looking for a dedicated, yet low time commitment position, this role is for you! Subcommittee core members will work closely with the Sustainability Coordinators, and AVP Engagement.
Duties of this role are as follows:
Work with other Sustainability Subcommittee Core members and sustainability coordinators to build a sense of community in the Sustainability Subcommittee by preparing and leading group discussions and ice breakers, as well as assisting with planning socials for the Subcommittee
Lead small groups of General Sustainability Subcommittee members in brainstorming, planning, and organizing from the start, to the completion of subcommittee projects
Assist Sustainability Coordinators with completing tasks for subcommittee projects that are not completed during subcommittee meeting times
Collaborate with Sustainability Coordinators to produce a sustainability resource guide for informing LFS|US events and purchases

If you’re interested in exploring more about sustainability initiatives through discussions, and team based projects, then becoming a general member of the sustainability subcommittee is a great fit for you! As a general member, you’ll interact with a group of passionate peers to work towards furthering the progress of UBC and LFS sustainability measures at bi-weekly meetings.
