Overnight Support Staff

We are always surprised by how few people apply for the overnight shift, because this is the easiest shift of them all. When we stop and think, we realize that these ads may seem like a scam. Why would someone pay people to mostly sleep? What kind of employer would do this?

Dr. Rytter actually pays for someone to sleep in her home because she is unable to evacuate in a case of a fire, earthquake, or some kind of natural disaster – a rare event. Also she can’t get up for an extra blanket, trip to the bathroom, or cold medicine. We all need to do these things occasionally, and Dr. Rytter is no different. However, she simply needs assistance with such things once in a blue moon. She definitely like to sleep throughout the night without any regular checks. Because of this, her overnight staff does get a fair amount of sleep during the overnight shift. Below is what one of her overnight staff say about this unique position.

"I have worked for Kristin on and off for seven years now, and keep coming back. It feels good to know you are helping support someone to live independently by helping an occasional need and being there in case of emergency. The job itself is very laid back, especially overnight shifts. These are great – it’s not often that you get a chance to get paid to sleep! Like anyone else, Kristin sometimes needs things in the middle of the night. However, it is not common and even as a light sleeper I can typically count on 6-6.5 hours of sleep per 8hr. night. Kristin is easy to work for and I highly recommend this job."
