The previous century saw the wealthiest leagues make their triumphant return to space. The largest of the planet's moons was to be their gateway to the stars, and so a mining colony was constructed, and named in honor of peaceful expansion. However, as more and more people called the moon their home, and more and more wealth was shipped back to the planet, an independence movement arose. After years of struggle, and even some violence, the colony was granted a large degree of self-rule. Now, they export their resources at much more favorable rates, using gigantic mass-drivers to launch the payloads planet-wards. The Lunar Republic has a smaller population than any other league, so they rely on a small force of technologically-superior mechs and vehicles, as well as a large drone fleet. Some of their units have even been sent down the gravity well for demonstration purposes.
Regions and Settlements:
- The Mass Drivers - a pair of elevated rails to accelerate payloads into space
- La Paz - capitol, primary spaceport, solar farms and helium^3 trawling
- Mycroft - built along and between the mass drivers, an important military outpost
- Hazel - mining center, water extraction/filtration, hydroponic breadbasket
- Gateway - theoretically an international space station, the Republic now exerts overt control
Military Forces:
- Dragon Army - the down-well force of the Republic, trained for normal-gravity operations; their mechs always have excellent environmental sealing and jump jets for enhanced mobility
- Rabbit Army - garrison and patrol force tasked with guarding the lunar surface and settlements
- Salamander Army - based out of Gateway, this space-borne force patrols cislunar space; they primarily use conventional spacecraft, but also have experimental zero-G mech chassis
Notable Figures:
- The Lunar Congress - elected representatives of the Lunar population, tasked with forming high-level policy and conducting international negotiation; individual settlements tend to make their own ordinances, and take much convincing to implement national initiatives
