Last night during a speech, Jonn Delea, leader of the Restorationists political party was shot along with 3 other leaders. Delea and two of the other leaders were pronounced dead a few hours later. The man who killed Delea joined the party only recently, and no one could identify who he was. Some theorize he was a member of United Intel and was ordered to assassinate Delea.
The Restorationists are a political party whose main ideal is to return democracy to the party. They claim President Elktan has become a dictator who needs to be removed. One year ago Elktan declared them a terrorist group after an attack on a politician. This attack was deduced to have been from a disgruntled employee of the politician, and not of the group, but the declaration of a terrorist group was no recisnded.
The surviving leader of the group, Sara Taltanna, hasn’t made any public appearances since last night, but she is quoted saying this was an assassination attempt by Elktan, and that the people should take to the streets and protest.
Since last night massive demonstrations across the UNG, primarily in the East, have erupted. The UNG police have cracked down on this, furthering anti-government sentiment. Some experts say these protests could escalate but that is yet to be seen.

The “Restorationists” an infamous political group that was declared a terrorist group one year ago by President Elktan was attacked last night by one of the groups own members. United Intel reports during a speech by leader Jonn Delea to the members of his group, one of them, likely realizing his mistake joining a terrorist group, drew a gun on Delea and shot him twice in the chest. The man then was able to shoot three other leaders of the Restorationists before being pinned down and beaten to death by a mob of Restorationists.
It is thought this will likely be the end of the Restorationists terrorist organization, as Delea was thought to be the only thing holding it together. Since the attack the last of the leadership of the Restorationists haven’t been seen, likely in hiding.
There have been reports of sympathizers throughout the UNG protesting, but they are exaggerated. There have been small protests, but they were dispersed quickly by the police.
The Restorationists have been a thorn in the side of the UNG for some time and have caused many civil disturbances. The ending of their group is a good thing for the UNG and all of its citizens. President Elktan is quoted saying “With the terrorist threat ended, we can return to paradise”.

After years of fighting the Elktan and the UNG government offered Taltanna and the rest of the revolution a peace treaty. This treaty states that all systems currently in control by the revolutionaries will be free, and free to form their own separate country. Taltanna and the rest of the leadership accepted this treaty.
The acceptance of the treaty is extremely controversial, as many did not wish for independence, but merely the restoration of democracy within the UNG. Many revolutionaries felt close ties to the UNG, and did not wish to be separated from it, but instead wished to liberate it. Nevertheless, Taltanna accepted this treaty.
Supporters of this treaty claim it is best for the revolution. They claim total victory would be utterly impossible, as the UNG is far better equipped and could defeat the revolution given time. This is not unfounded. The UNG has better technology, and InterFleet is far more organized than the revolutionary militias. Some claim that in the future the revolution could come back and finally restore democracy to the UNG. However it should be noted that one of the stipulations of the treaty is an enforced peace, so another war would break an intergalactic treaty.
The new government is being organized into a Confederation, allowing unsatisfied systems to leave it. It is unlikely any will, as they need the protection of the other systems. A liberal democracy is being organized, and elections will be held on 2962.9.3. The economy is planned to be mixed, leaning towards the free market.
Some criticize these new plans as not going far enough to keep democracy. There is a notable opposition in the Eastern systems, many wishing for a direct democracy and a market economy.
The future of this new nation is shaky and unknown. But after years the revolution has ended and there is peace in the south of the quadrant again.
