History:

The United Nations of the Galaxy was not formed until 2605, but it's predecessor, the Union of Space, was formed in 2333. The Union of Space was formed as a federal union between Elyria, Caygalia, Deon, and Tunia. The Union of Space was much smaller than the UNG, and it had much less influence. 126 years after it's formation, in the year 2439, a constitutional crisis saw the collapse of the Union of Space, resulting in the nation splitting up into smaller, individual nations. These smaller nations remained separate until 2605, when the same peoples, as well as two more, got together and formed the United Nations of the Galaxy. The United Nations of the Galaxy grew slowly overtime, as smaller nations and systems petitioned to join, and were accepted. There have been a few notable occurrences of smaller nations seceding, but it has not been common. The first major war fought by the UNG was against the Commune of Syltia, in 2712. That conflict was fought over influence in the smaller nations between them. It lasted for 8 years before it's conclusion. The next notable event was the first Dominion war, in 2789. This lasted for 5 years and ended in a debilitating defeat for the Dominion, giving the UNG more influence over the areas between the two nations. There would be a second Dominion war in 2947, this time in the Dominions favor, in 2952 the Dominion managed to attack Elyria, causing the UNG to seek peace. During the attack on Elyria then president Elktan declared emergency powers. Following the conclusion of the war Elktan refused to relinquish her emergency powers, and moved to establish a dictatorship with herself at it's center. Many opposition groups formed to oppose her, which she cracked down upon. The most notable of these groups was the "Restorationists" the predecessors to the Confederation Leadership. Elktan would order the leader of this group be assassinated, but this backfired and ended up being the catalyst for the civil war. After 12 years of fighting Elktan offered the Confederation freedom, and the keeping of the systems it had in it's control. The Confederation leadership accepted this and the civil war came to an end.

Systems of the UNG

Elyria

Elyria is the capital system of the UNG and the most populated. There are 6 planets in the Elyria System.

Planets of Elyria:

Derran

Derran is the seat of the Central Government of the UNG. The planet functions as the UNG capital. The planet is terrestrial with an almost equal amount of water and land. It is highly populated and massively urbanized. The main metropolitan area stretches across much of the planet and encompasses more than one continent.

Hicivis

Hicivis is a much larger planet than Derran, and is the single most populated planet in the UNG. Almost the entirety of the planet is urbanized, with the largest metropolitan area in the entire region.

Millus

Millus is the smallest planet in Elyrius, and contains the headquarters of InterFleet. Millus is the least populated of the Elyrius system, but it still has a large population. It has many large metropolitan areas across the planet, with InterFleet headquarters. The largest military space station in the UNG orbits this planet, acting as a dock for InterFleet ships.

Untrum

Untrum is a medium sized planet in Elyrius, and contains a large population. Untrum is the main manufacturing center in Elyrius.

Secree

Secree is a small planet in Elyrius with a medium sized population. Secree contains the headquarters of United Intel.

Artae

Artae is a medium planet in Elyrius with a large population. Artae is the farthest planet from the Elyrius Star, and is primarily a trading planet.

Government

The UNG is a Federation, each system has its own local government that answers to the Central Government in the capital. The central government of the UNG is not functional. President Elktan holds emergency powers and has control of the actions of the central government. However the local governments still do function, and one can say there is democracy there.

Politics

Officially there is only one political party in the UNG, the Federal Party. This party is controlled by President Elktan. However, there are secret underground organizations that can be considered political parties. In local elections, their underground parties run as independent, or under the guise that they are loyal to the Federal party.

Economy

The UNG is a State Socialist economy. The economy is incredibly diverse, and does things such as manufacture and sell weapons, to farm on industrial scales.
