The Free Valins started a rebellion 12 years ago in the Dominion of Treysaria. After 5 years of fighting the Free Valins signed an armistice with the Dominion. However they were only able to free two of the three Valin systems. Valnai still lies within the hands of the Dominion. After the armistice the Valins organized government but it fell to corruption, and was eventually overthrown 1 year ago. Since then the provisional government has ruled. It is noted that the provisional government has been struggling to take care of its people. An organization known as Valin Nationalist Society has committed attacks on the military of the Dominion, and on government infrastructure in Valnai. President Naiz claims to have no connection with them, but her own son is a member, so this is doubtful.

Valnai is not controlled by the Free Valins, it is controlled by the Dominion of Treysaria. However the Free Valins still claim it as it is almost entirely populated by Valins.

The Free Valins are a unitary congressional government. Each province on each planet gets 1 representative in the Valin congress. The head of state is President Vanya Naiz.

The major divisive issue in the Valin Government is that of Valnai. Many support trying to take it back by any means necessary, while others claim any attempt would result in a loss of all Valin systems.
The Valin Nationalist Society (VNS) is a terrorist organization sabotaging the Dominion of Treysaria. The organization is hellbent on taking the Valnai system for the Free Valins. Many congressional members support this organization, though they are technically outlaws. The president herself has a son involved in the VNS.

The Free Valins have a free market economy. The economy is very trade focused, as many ships who do not want to pass through the Dominion use the Valin systems as a pit stop.
